    Description

    Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest democratic socialist organization in the United States and has experienced massive growth over the past two years. We now have 56,000+ members and over 200 groups in 50 states and the District of Columbia engaged in movement-building, public education, direct action, advocacy, and electoral politics. Our goal is to build multi-racial working class power and win transformative reforms like Medicare for All, protect programs like Medicaid expansion at the state level, support a stronger labor movement, and elect socialists to office, all while shifting the public framing around capitalism and democratic socialism.

    This position will report to the Finance Director and work closely with other staff to develop and strengthen Democratic Socialists of America’s financial management.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate accounts payable with DSA approval including managing vendor information, collecting W-9s, filing contracts, entering expenses on QuickBooks Online, requesting ACH and wire payments, and assisting with cash flow tracking. Maintain records for all expense reporting.
    • Review, track and process employee expense and trip reporting; including submission and coordinating approvals for reimbursements.
    • Prepare monthly expense and revenue financial reports as needed for management and board reports, as well as financial tracking and analysis
    • Create and maintain spreadsheets for use in preparing and monitoring individual and overall program budgets, measuring program operation and service delivery.
    • Track billing to chapters, and DSA Fund, for tools and other reimbursable expenses on a quarterly or monthly basis
    • Maintain audit-ready financial documentation. Support with annual audit preparation.
    • Support Compliance Manager in tracking and reporting c4 donations and expenditures as needed.
    • Support the Finance Director in auditing DSA bookkeeping procedures; assist the finance team in the development of fiscal policies and procedures for National organization
    • Work with the Chapter Program Coordinator to develop trainings for chapter treasurers; support chapters with financial questions as needed
    • Perform other duties which may arise based on the needs of the organization
    • Positive attitude, professionalism and integrity with the ability to keep sensitive information confidential.

    Requirements

    • Ability to perform tasks at the office in NYC
    • Experience in a professional finance role with a non-profit or advocacy group
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Quickbooks; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
    • Detail-oriented and data and deadline driven
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
    • Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and general communication skills.
    • A strong relationship-builder and team player
    • Self-starter that can efficiently manage multiple projects at once and use limited resources effectively
    • Handles high pressure situations with positive attitude, tact and professionalism
    • Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of YDSA and DSA

    Preferred

    • Experience with Credit Card payments and processors.
    • Familiarity with Asana
    • Popular or political education background
    • Ability to remain neutral in a highly charged political environment
    • Creativity
    • Sense of humor

    Reports to: Finance Director

    Work Schedule: Full-time.

    Location: NYC Tri-State Area

    Salary: $56,000, non-exempt

    This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.

    Benefits: We offer employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter.
