    Description

The Honeycomb Project is Chicago’s leading nonprofit for family volunteering, running 350+ projects annually in partnership with 50+ local nonprofits. Our unique family-centered model engages kids and parents in hands-on service, helping more than 5,000 volunteers—across 90% of the city’s zip codes—address critical community needs. As local nonprofits struggle to meet rising demand, they rely on Honeycomb for essential support, from providing meals at shelters to delivering groceries to seniors.

As we gear up for a busy season of programming, we’re looking for Freelance Project Leaders to help run our monthly volunteer projects. In this role, you will lead ongoing volunteer initiatives, creating meaningful experiences that inspire kids, strengthen communities, and support local organizations tackling critical needs across Chicago. As Project Leader, you’ll be the key connection between families and our nonprofit partners—ensuring that your monthly project is well-organized, engaging, and impactful.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead a volunteer project (typically monthly), ensuring a consistent, engaging, and impactful experience for families and partner organizations.
    • Facilitate an educational and inspiring experience, using Honeycomb’s site-specific curriculum, discussion prompts, and reflection activities to build social awareness and community connection.
    • Oversee all day-of logistics, including supply pick-up/delivery from Honeycomb HQ.
    • Guide and motivate volunteers through tasks, ensuring everyone feels included and prepared.
    • Liaise with nonprofit partners, ensuring project needs are met and relationships remain strong.
    • Support and mentor youth volunteers, helping them develop leadership skills and confidence.
    • Track participation and share feedback with Honeycomb staff to improve future projects.
    • Foster a welcoming environment where families work together toward a shared goal.
    • Commit to leading 1-2 projects per month. Be paired with a project that aligns with your schedule, interests, and strengths (3-4 hours/project).
    • Compensation: $100/project
