    Description

    Abode Services, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a skilled Development and Special Events Officer to help support the Fremont Office.

    About this role: Abode is seeking a Development and Special Events Officer, reporting to the VP of Fundraising and Communications, to lead and continue to evolve our dynamic calendar of events. The right candidate will have exceptional project management, collaboration, and communication skills, and take pride in impeccable attention to detail. This position will work closely with the VP of Fundraising and Communications to build a strategy for enriching Abode’s special events to deepen the engagement of donors, prospects, our Board, and other key stakeholders toward the goal of growing our revenue base.

    How you make an impact:

    • Provide event coordination of the annual Journey Home Breakfast fundraiser. Duties will include vendor management, recruiting and training table captains and actively soliciting event sponsorships for the event.
    • Oversee planning and coordination of the annual Candlelight Vigil and assist with other events including grand openings and ribbon cutting ceremonies.
    • Plan logistics for volunteer events and other donor appreciation events throughout the year across the Bay Area.
    • Assist VP of Fundraising and Communications on smaller-scale donor cultivation opportunities, such as dinners or private receptions.
    • Engage in relationships with event attendees, volunteers, and agency stakeholders, cultivate giving relationships, and contribute to donor stewardship efforts.
    • Work collaboratively with the rest of the Fundraising and Communications team on event collateral, messaging, and event content strategy.
    • Attend and participate in local community events and presentations representing Abode Services.
    • Provide prompt, accurate and confidential follow-up to inquiries from potential or current donors and community organizations.
    • Assist with the upkeep of the donor database, gift accounting, and pledge collection as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    How you meet qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or four years of senior level development and special events experience in nonprofit organizations is required.
    • Flexible schedule to represent Abode Services at community events during day, evenings, and weekends on occasion.
    • Reliable transportation and proof of valid California Driver's License and current auto insurance, along with a clean DMV record, is required.

    Competencies:

    • Record of accomplishment as an effective communicator; highly skilled in writing and speaking; adept at crafting donor correspondence and other written materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and quickly gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including board and staff members, donors, elected officials, and community leaders.
    • Experience in research and developing funding opportunities.
    • Highly organized; able to manage multiple assignments, competing priorities and deadlines effectively.
    • Ability to maintain an elevated level of confidentiality.
    • Excellent verbal & written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
    • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with teams.
    • Elevated level of proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, systems, and platforms, with strong donor database experience.
    • Ability to learn and use required mobile devices and business-related applications.
    • Outstanding communication skills and high degree of emotional intelligence, cultural humility, with a proven record of accomplishment to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
