Friends Camp is a Quaker overnight camp located in central Maine. Counselors must be at least 19 years old and have some experience with kids. The summer of 2025 goes from June 13th to August 16th, including one week of staff training and 8 weeks of camp. At Friends Camp, cabin counselors have the biggest role in shaping the camp experience for kids and making it amazing. Counselors are in charge of planning creative programming for campers and creating community in their cabins, and some counselors are lifeguards as well. We encourage counselors to bring their own interests and talents to the job, so a sense of creativity is important. Activities often include sports, arts and crafts, boating, nature activities, roleplay games like Dungeons and Dragons, and games of your own invention — the wackier the better! Being a counselor at Friends Camp provides the opportunity to live in, engage with, and help build an intentional community where we strive to achieve belonging and connection for everyone.
The summer is split into four two-week sessions, with kids between 7 and 17. Counselors live in cabins with between 6 and 10 campers each session, and almost always with a co-counselor. We offer boys, girls, and gender-expansive cabins, but we do not divide campers by gender in other areas at camp. We are a Quaker camp, but we welcome and value people of all religious and spiritual identities, including atheists and agnostics, and we do not proselytize.
