    Description

    Position Summary

    The Database Officer will be responsible for managing and maintaining our data systems, with a focus on integrating IBM Cognos Analytics with our Google Cloud SQL database. This role will provide technical support for data-related issues, ensure data quality and integrity, and assist in training staff on the use of data systems and tools.

    The position is fully remote, and NY/NJ/CT staff are welcome to come to the office. THP employees are not expected to be physically present in the New York or other THP Office space in the USA, except if required for service or by the job function, or determined by the supervisor, or for meeting purposes as needed and instructed by a manager. A manager can always ask for a direct report to come to a THP office space or other meeting space to meet in person for business reasons. To foster collaboration and build teams, THP employees may be required to join in person meetings and gatherings. THP may provide reasonable accommodations to employees who require an exception to this policy. The position is full-time and reports to the Associate Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL).

    The position is exempt, not eligible for overtime, with a salary range of $65,000 - $75,000 USD. Additionally, this position is benefits eligible and includes an annualized cafeteria plan allowance currently fixed at $18,000. The candidate must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship, now nor in the future.

    Essential Functions

    Database Management:

    • Manage and maintain the organization’s Google Cloud SQL database, ensuring optimal performance and security.
    • Develop and implement processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL).
    • Version Control and Repository Management:
    • Manage and maintain the organization's GitHub repository, ensuring version control and proper documentation of all database and technical projects.
    • Ensure that all code, scripts, and related documentation are up to date and properly stored in the GitHub repository.

    Integration and Analytics:

    • Lead the integration of IBM Cognos Analytics with Google Cloud SQL, ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility.
    • Support the development and implementation of data systems and analytics tools.

    Data Quality and Integrity:

    • Ensure data quality and integrity across all data systems.
    • Implement data validation and cleansing processes to maintain accurate and reliable data.

    Technical Support:

    • Provide technical support for data-related issues, troubleshooting problems, and implementing solutions.
    • Assist in training staff on the use of data systems and tools, enhancing their technical skills and data literacy.

    Documentation and Reporting:

    • Document all database management processes and procedures.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on data system performance and analytics.
    • Support in the development of user-friendly and impact data visualizations.

    Qualifications

    Education (Minimum Needed and Type of Degree Needed):

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.

    Work Experience (Minimum needed)

    • 2+ years of experience in database management or a similar role.
    • Preferred: Non-profit setting with remote team structure

    Specialized Knowledge Needed for Job Performance

    • Proficiency in managing and maintaining Google Cloud SQL databases.
    • Experience with Git and GitHub for version control and repository management.
    • Ability to manage code repositories, including branching, merging, and resolving conflicts.
    • Proficiency in SQL, PHP, HTML/CSS.
    • Experience working on UX/UI design.
    • Strong understanding of SQL and database management principles.
    • Experience with data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
    • Ability to develop data models, reports, and dashboards using IBM Cognos.
    • Familiarity with data validation and cleansing techniques.
    • Technical support and troubleshooting skills for data-related issues.

    Special Skills

    • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript.
    • Experience with IBM Cognos Analytics, including integration with SQL databases.
    • Strong knowledge of OOP, relational databases, visual dashboards.
    • Proficiency in MS Office suite, with expertise in Excel.
    • High level of knowledge with Google Suite and tools.

    Other

    • Fluency in Spanish and/or French is preferred.
    • High level of confidentiality.
    • Ability to work with a shifting daily schedule, including outside of regular working hours and days.
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, and work on multiple time zones, as necessary.
