    Description

    New Haven Youth Tennis and Education is a youth development organization providing academic support, tennis instruction, and enrichment through after school and summer programming to underserved students in New Haven, Connecticut.

    As part of our Summer Academy, students are divided into groups by grade (grade 2, grade 3, grades 3-4, grades 6-8). Each group comes to tennis for 60-75 minutes each day. We seek a Summer Tennis Director to lead a team of paid and volunteer tennis coaches to provide tennis instruction and activities for our students.

    Dates: June 30-August 1 (closed July 4)

    Time: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm

    Location: On the campus of the Hopkins School, 986 Forest Road, New Haven, CT

    Salary: $5000

    Duties:

    • Work from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm each weekday for 5 weeks
    • Lead a team that includes a tennis pro, tennis coaches, and assistant tennis coaches
    • With the team, plan and implement tennis lessons for four groups of students each day. There are around 12-14 students in each group. Tennis levels are from beginning to advanced intermediate.
    • Ensure participation and safety on the tennis courts
    • Attend a 2-day staff training on May 31+June 1 or June 26+27

    Desired qualities:

    • Enjoys working with kids and teens
    • Able and willing to mentor a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and students
    • Comfortable taking initiative and making flexible decisions. Meet students where they are, respond to weather or safety issues, and support young staff.
    • Age 21 or older
