An Assistant Counsel/National Field Representative position is available in the National Treasury Employees Union's (NTEU) Austin Field Office. The position is in the bargaining unit and has a career ladder on the NTEU pay scale of Grade 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. There is a three-year waiting period to be eligible for promotion from the Grade 14 to 15 level.
The Assistant Counsel serves as a liaison between NTEU chapters and headquarters. Travel is required. Duties include internal chapter development and organizing, chapter training, representing NTEU and employees in arbitration and other administrative forums, and membership recruitment. A successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: preparing and presenting cases for hearings; legal writing, including post hearing briefs; designing and implementing internal issue organizing campaigns; participating in representational election campaigns; and working with chapters and/or other organizations to build their membership and improve their operations. A successful candidate will also have demonstrated leadership capabilities.
