    Description

    United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 3000 (UFCW 3000) invites applications for a Strategic Campaigns and Community Organizer, based in our Des Moines office with flexibility to travel nationally and throughout our entire jurisdiction. This full-time role demands a highly-skilled individual who can integrate political savvy and strategy with a deep commitment to community engagement and local 3000’s mission and objectives.

    The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating national and state campaigns and building broad and deep relationships with allies to win short- and long-term fights for economic, political, and social justice. We are seeking a skilled critical thinker and virtuous listener that can forge and cultivate relationships with organizational and community leaders, as well as rank and file/grassroots activists. This individual should be able to move organizations and individuals to see themselves as part of a larger campaign and draw a thread through national and local issues towards a greater vision of justice. They should be a self-starter, that can be a link with various community forces and keep a pulse on community issues, with a goal of developing potential allies and broadening and deepening current key relationships. They will be a community connector to building support for both worker lead organizing campaigns- and movement campaigns.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Develop, create, and execute comprehensive campaigns and work plans that effectively align with the union's objectives and strategies in organizing, strategic campaigns, and community organizing.
    • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with local and national organizations and leaders, focused on labor, faith, racial equity, food, housing, immigration, and gender and climate justice, aiming to drive social and economic justice.
    • Attend campaign meetings and lead community participation in contract, political, and organizing growth campaigns, employing strategic approaches to maximize impact.
    • Craft and convey compelling presentations, and strategic plans, communicating the union's objectives and accomplishments to both members and community/labor partners.
    • Develop and manage systems for tracking and analyzing relevant organizational data
    • Represent UFCW 3000 in various local and national advocacy and community coalitions. Facilitate and coordinate workers and staff involvement in campaign and community activities.

    Qualifications:

    • 5-10 years of experience in political, community, and/or labor organizing ideal.
    • Proficient in communication, research, and analytical skills.
    • Excellent group facilitation and collective strategizing skills, including an advanced understanding of conflict management and resolution skills.
    • Exhibit strong seIf-starting qualities, with an ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in advancing organizational campaigns and initiatives.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a collaborative spirit and the ability to maintain a positive outlook and humor under pressure.
    • Genuine enthusiasm for engaging members in the union's strategic campaigns and community work.
    • Dedicated to the broader mission of UFCW 3000, with a keen interest in the organization's endeavors.
    • Commitment to applying a racial and gender equity lens in work and mobilizing diverse, underrepresented groups.
    • Basic computer skills required, including proficiency in Excel
    • Flexibility to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
    • Ability and willingness to travel within and outside Washington State.

    Prior experience in union activities, advocacy, legislative affairs, community organizing, or electoral campaign fieldwork is highly desirable.
