    Job Title: Summer Site Lead

    Position Type: Full-Time Seasonal

    Duration: June 25th 2025 - August 12th 2025

    Locations: Cambridge & Boston, MA

    Expected Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

    Compensation & Benefits: $6,000 stipend

    Reports to: Youth Program Manager & Program Director

    The Position:

    CitySprouts is seeking highly-motivated individuals to lead our summer gardening program in Cambridge and Boston. Leaders will be placed into teams of 3 to lead cohorts of up to 20 youth (ages 11-14) in engaging and interactive activities focused around gardening, STEM concepts, and urban green spaces. The program will run July 7th - August 8th from 9:00 - 2:00 Monday - Fridays, with training beforehand beginning on June 25th and two days of cleanup and evaluation after program end. The position reports to the CitySprouts Youth Program Manager.

    Responsibilities:

    • Act as site lead in a summer program site overseeing up to 20 youth ages 10-14.
    • Work collaboratively with a team of 3 educators to facilitate provided gardening, STEM, and SEL curriculum throughout the program.
    • Facilitate an inclusive and welcoming environment for all youth to build community together.
    • Oversee the program’s garden maintenance at the assigned site.
    • Travel with youth on weekly field trips throughout the city. Ensure youth safety while using public transit and on-site at field trips.
    • Act as the primary point of contact with participants’ families to provide updates on program experiences and resolve any issues that arise.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings.

    Qualifications:

    • 2+ years of experience facilitating youth programming, especially in an outdoor setting.
    • Proven capacity to work in a multicultural workforce, including sensitivity and competency in working with individuals and groups of diverse cultural, lingual, socioeconomic, and lifestyle backgrounds
    • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent listening, public speaking, oral and written communications skills
    • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a dynamic team of educators.
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for the CitySprouts mission
    • Working knowledge of sustainable gardening practices; experience managing a garden preferred
    • Ability to do physical work outside
    • Fluency in Spanish or other language in addition to English strongly preferred

    About CitySprouts Summer Green Team:

    The mission of CitySprouts is to cultivate curiosity and wonder with hands-on science learning through urban gardens. Since 2001, CitySprouts has been partnering with public elementary and middle schools in Boston and Cambridge to open the door to hands-on science education through the schoolyard learning garden

    The Green Team Summer Program is a 5-week program split into consecutive 3-week and 2-week sessions and based in a school garden in either Cambridge and Boston. Each program site has a cohort of up to 20 youth and is facilitated by a team of 3 educators.Through hands-on activities and getting outside, youth explore nature, participate in STEM activities, and build a sense of community.

    The program prioritizes young people 10-14 years old (rising 5th - 8th graders) who are historically marginalized, economically disadvantaged, and/or youth of color. The program is free to all participants. Upon completion of the program youth participants receive a certificate and stipend to compensate them for their work in maintaining the garden.
