    Job Title: Deputy Director of Communications

    Status: Full-time, exempt

    Location: This position can be remote or work out of TLC’s offices in Oakland or Brooklyn

    Salary: $98,744 - $121,834depending on experience

    POSITION SUMMARY

    We are seeking a highly organized and strategic Deputy Director of Communications to lead the efficient operation of our CommunicationsDepartment. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who excels at managing departmental functions, fostering cross-team collaboration, and driving the execution of impactful communications strategies. The Deputy Director will ensure that all communications effectively highlight TLC’s work through compelling storytelling, targeted press outreach, and engaging digital content. Working closely with team leads, this role will align messaging and content production with organizational priorities, ensuring every aspect of our communications reflects and upholds TLC’s core values.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborate with the Communications Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Communications Department, ensuring workflows are efficient, deadlines are met, and priorities are aligned.
    • Develop and implement systems for tracking communications projects, deliverables, and metrics to enhance accountability and transparency.
    • Streamline workflows by creating and maintaining processes for project intake, management, content review, and final approvals.
    • Establish and manage systems that ensure seamless collaboration between the Communications Department and program, legal, development, and other TLC teams
    • Provide leadership and oversight to communications team members, ensuring projects are appropriately staffed, departmental needs are met, and work aligns with TLC’s values and goals.
    • Ensure all communications adhere to organizational messaging guidelines and reflect TLC's commitment to its mission and values.
    • Stay informed about and integrate best practices in non-profit communications, leveraging new platforms, tools, trends, and partnerships to enhance messaging and broaden reach.
    • Work with the Communications Director to facilitate regular team meetings, track progress, address challenges, and maintain alignment with organizational priorities.
    • Prepare budgets and Board materials as needed.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • 7-10 years’ experience in a senior leadership role in a communications department
    • Proven ability to manage complex workflows and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proven experience leading communications teams with a focus on compassionate leadership, talent development, conflict resolution, and maintaining high standards for team performance.
    • A demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and gender justice and an understanding of the communities TLC represents.
    • Must have experience with communications tools and platforms, such as EveryAction, Cision, Meltwater, Air Table and Dash Hudson. Additional experience in project management and image development platforms such as Asana and Canva is preferred.
    • Must be familiar and comfortable with integrating accessibility standards throughout communications products.
    • Experience working in teams with people from various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, gender, disability, and generational backgrounds
