    Description

    Mentoring Through Athletics (MTA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Greater Washington DC region. For ten years, MTA has been utilizing organized athletics and team-building activities to help youth in low- and middle-income communities develop confidence and positive self-esteem. Through a variety of programs and athletic leagues, we not only teach children a full range of life skills, we bring families together and foster community pride. Our work has grown steadily over the years, and we are preparing for substantial growth in the coming year, as demand for our work is growing in every county in the region.

    MTA is looking for a Development Manager to help oversee its fundraising efforts. This is currently slated to be a part-time role but there is potential for it to grow into a full-time Development Director position. This is a work-from-home position but the individual must live in the Greater Washington DC region, as we will meet in person on a regular basis, and there will also be frequent meetings with supporters and networks representing each revenue stream.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Work with the Executive Director and senior staff to prepare fundraising proposals and outreach to individuals, corporations, government, and other sectors.
    • Perform fundraising research in multiple revenue streams
    • Coordinate fundraising operations, including maintaining a development calendar with timelines, meetings, and other activities, as well as managing prospective foundation outreach and donor acknowledgements
    • Support and engage in social media efforts
    • Engage in networking opportunities to increase MTA's visibility in the region.

    Preferred/Desired Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree, along with three or more years of grant writing experience, with a proven record of success (to include multi-year grants, collaborative or partnership grants, and six-figure grants
    • Excellent networking skills
    • Excellent writing and story-telling skills
    • Strong social media skills
    • Graphic design skills
    • Strong team player, yet able to work effectively and efficiently on an independent basis
