    Position Description and Responsibilities:

    We seek a talented and dedicated person to join our team as Director of Development and support the New York community‐labor movement for social, economic, and climate justice. This position will report to the Executive Director and be responsible for (but not limited to):

    • Staff Development and Team Leadership:
      • Supervise the Senior Manager of Finance and Operations and any future fundraising, operations, or finance staff;
      • Recruit and supervise relevant vendors, consultants, and volunteers.
      • Ensure the effective participation of staff in fundraising efforts, particularly the Executive Director;
      • Manage the board fundraising and finance committee and ensure effective board participation in fundraising;
      • Collaborate with the leadership team support practices that maintain a caring, collaborative, and effective staff team.
    • Strategic Fundraising and Financial Planning:
      • In collaboration with the Executive Director and others, develop, implement and monitor comprehensive annual and multi-year development plans to project and raise annual budget goals and advance ALIGN’s campaign priorities;
      • In collaboration with the Executive Director and others, develop and maintain a goal budget of $1.6 million.
    • Institutional Fundraising:
      • Research, develop, and steward proposals for foundation funding with a long-term relationship approach;
      • Ensure timely submission of reports and renewal proposals for existing funders;
      • Coordinate foundation site visits and ongoing communication updates with institutional funders and prospects;
      • Develop and implement a strategy for fundraising from labor allies, including relationship building, development of all necessary materials.
    • Events:
      • Oversee planning, coordination, budget management, and implementation of special events, including but not limited to galas, house parties, donor cultivation events, and other related activities;
      • Facilitate fundraising, programmatic, and logistical coordination with relevant staff, consultants, and stakeholder groups;
      • Build and manage an individual donor strategy.
    • Other:
      • Explore and execute on any additional fundraising strategies, including grassroots and major donor fundraising;
      • Develop and implement strategies to broaden support for efforts for climate and economic justice.
      • Support with various aspects of the organization’s finances including but not limited to the annual budget & funds management.

    Required:

    • A commitment to social, economic, climate, and racial justice and the labor movement;
    • An understanding of ALIGN’s mission and model for building power with community and labor;
    • Minimum of 5 years of professional fundraising experience working in a community/climate organization and minimum of 2 years of leadership and staff management experience;
    • Broad understanding and familiarity of the New York foundation landscape;
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills;
    • Demonstrated initiative and work as a team player.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working in or with labor unions
    • Experience fundraising for environmental/climate justice and/or worker justice;
    • Experience using CRMs, use of PowerBase a plus;
    • Experience using various communication and task management systems, use of Asana and Slack a plus.
