    About Stimson

    The Henry L. Stimson Center (Stimson), a nonpartisan global security think tank located in Washington, DC, seeks a Research Associate/Assistant Reporting to the Director of the Converging Technology and Global Security Program.     About the Program and Position Summary

    Stimson's Converging Technology & Global Security Program evaluates and tests the influence and applicability of rapidly evolving technologies in reshaping global security. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to inform policymaking that fosters the successful and inclusive integration of innovative technologies.

    The Research Associate/Assistant position provides comprehensive support across the program's research and analysis, management, and administrative activities in a fast-paced and evolving operating environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct primary and secondary research on the convergence of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) materials and weapons, and novel technologies such as artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, synthetic biology, and quantum computing
    • Write, proofread, and copy-edit program publications, program website, multimedia, power point presentations and reports to funders
    • Assist with meetings, seminars, and other events, facilitating invitations, room set up and building access for guests
    • Track funding opportunities and support development of funding proposals
    • Monitor and track media and news developments related to CBRN and advances in technology
    • Maintain program stakeholder lists, coordinate with Stimson's Communications team, and provide other programmatic administrative support as assigned
    • Represent Stimson at meetings and related events.
    • Provide comprehensive administrative support for the program, including tracking grant reporting requirements and deadlines, monitoring and logging media hits and notable program accomplishments, drafting regular stakeholder correspondence and updates, and salesforce-related requirements.

    Qualifications - required:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (such as international relations, political science, history) with 2 years relevant experience or master's degree with 1-year relevant experience.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
    • Experience with Data visualization / multimedia
    • Superior research, analytic, and writing skills with demonstrated experience in communicating complex topics into clear, audience-oriented products.
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate with peers in a team environment
    • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
    • Creative problem solving.
    • Diplomatic skills and cultural sensitivity; willingness to work with global stakeholders, occasionally during non-standard hours.
    • A willingness to support the program across various project, management, and administrative tasks, including those that may be unfamiliar.
    • Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other workplace tools that support team organization and promote hybrid collaboration and teamwork.

    Qualifications - preferred:

    • Knowledge of policy debates surrounding technology and global security
    • Prior experience in CBRN security or nonproliferation and/or emerging/disruptive technologies.
    • Existing record of policy research writing, and publications related to international security affairs.
    • Proficiency in a foreign language, particularly one or more of the official UN languages.
    • Experience with organizing seminars, webinars and other events
    • Interest in issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in international security contexts.
    • Experience with social-media platforms, analytics, and effective promotion strategies; experience developing social media awareness, promotional campaigns, and calendars.
    • Experience with database management or development, as well as relevant tools like WordPress, Datawrapper, AirTable, STATA, SPSS, etc.
