    About the Position

    • Tilth Alliance’s Seasonal Farm Stand Project Manager is primarily responsible for operational management of the sliding scale discount Farm Stand, including ordering and packing, supervising volunteers, and overseeing compliance with food access benefit programs. The project manager will also work closely with the Director of Agricultural Production & Youth Employment to support on-site fruit and vegetable production through planting, weeding, harvesting, and post
    • harvest wash/pack assistance to bring the bounty of produce grown at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands to market. Our farm stand centers food access by offering a sliding scale produce discount, where shoppers can receive up to $20 in free fresh fruits and vegetables on market Thursdays, as well as utilize a variety of local and national food access benefit programs. This seasonal role will also provide support to other Market Programs activities including the Good Food Bag Program (GFB), Community Kitchens meals, and cut flower project, as time allows. The GFB program works with local farmers, many of whom are immigrants or refugees, to order high-quality produce that is distributed weekly, primarily to low-income families at subsidized rates.       • The Seasonal Farm Stand Project Manager will manage many of the week-to-week logistics of running our farm stand from early June through early October. Responsibilities include ordering local produce and other food items, supporting volunteers in market prep and day of, farm work including harvest and post-harvest handling, updating price lists and signage, operating as the staff point person on farm stand Thursdays, and weekly wrap up. The typical work week will be Monday

      Friday, with work into the evenings on Thursdays (~8pm), approximately 40 hours per week.

      The Seasonal Farm Stand Project Manager will be based out of Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands (RBUFW).

      Job Responsibilities

      • Placing weekly produce and other local full diet food orders.
      • Farm production support including planting, weeding, harvest, post-harvest wash/pack, and harvest metrics tracking to help bring produce grown on
      • site to market.
      • Receiving/organizing weekly produce orders.
      • Inventory management + restocking.
      • Set-up, breakdown and working the farm stand, including customer service, cashiering, and overseeing compliance with food benefit programs (EBT, Fresh Bucks, SNAP Match, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefits).
      • Supporting maintenance, harvest, and arrangement of cut flowers for farm stand sales.
      • Organizing and tracking weekly produce donations of surplus to community partners.
      • Working with volunteers and engaging with community members.
      • Setting up and maintaining food safety systems.
      • Participating in team meetings.

      Required Skills

      • Able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
      • Willing to work outside in all kinds of weather.
      • Vegetable farm experience using organic growing methods.
      • Ability to identify a range of fruit + vegetables.
      • Being on your feet for an extended period of time.
      • A valid WA State Food Worker Card, or ability to obtain one.
      • Sincere passion for social justice and food sovereignty.
      • Ability to think on your feet and creatively problem
      • solve.
      • Knowledge and understanding of nutritional concerns and health disparities faced by low-income households.
      • Have lived experience or have worked with diverse audiences.
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Desire to build genuine relationships with community members and partners.
      • Strong organizational and time management skills.
      • Self-directed, are able to work independently and in a team.

      Desired Experience

      • Experience working in farmers markets or farm stands.
      • Experience working on small fruit and vegetable operations that utilize organic growing practices, particularly with a background in CSA management and/or post-harvest handling.
      • Understanding of public benefits including EBT, SNAP Match, Fresh Bucks and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
      • Experience with customer service and Point of Sales systems.
      • Experience and understanding of challenges small farmers face.
      • Familiarity with local and seasonal produce.
      • Familiarity with flower farming and floral design.
      • Experience and knowledge of food safety.
      • Multi-lingual.
      • Are from or have experience with the communities of the Rainier Valley.

      • This is a temporary, full-time non-exempt position that requires some evening work. Benefits include sick time, and internal Tilth Alliance staff benefits including produce discounts, classes at no-cost, and no/low cost kids camps. Compensation is $24.00 per hour.
