    DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

    The Moth Education Program (EDU) works with young people and educators to build community through our innovative storytelling workshops and curriculum. Programs culminate in a final share/performance. We hold in-person and virtual residencies in high schools across New York City and the United States. The Moth believes that young people have powerful voices and perspectives, yet they often go unheard. This is especially true for young people of color.     POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Moth Education Program creates spaces where young storytellers listen, celebrate each other’s voices, and tell their own stories. Through crafting and sharing true, personal narratives, participants gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their peers, their community and the world around them. The Manager, Education is responsible for staffing, guiding, and building up our instructor pool who work with high school and college students across the country. This person will be an arts educator with experience and interest in promoting art and craft of storytelling to high school and college students and teachers across NYC and the country.

    The Manager also is responsible for curriculum development across our programs and professional development workshops, including our signature Moth Teacher Institute, that we conduct twice annually. Additionally, the work we do with our instructors is dedicated to growing and deepening our work with young people in high schools, participating in community based organizations, and matriculating at colleges around the country. The ideal candidate has approximately 5-8 years full-time, related work experience in teacher training, curriculum development, a passion for true personal storytelling, and a commitment to amplifying the voices of young people. This position reports to The Moth’s Sr. Manager of Education and tracks to non-profit management.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Management & Vision

    • Sets the strategy for hiring, developing and retaining instructor talent - in collaboration under the direction of the Senior Manager
    • Design and implement a comprehensive training and continuing professional development program for the instructor community
    • In collaboration with the EDU team and under the direction of the Senior Manager, helps set the vision for the future of the program

    Instructor Management & Development

    • Hires and trains new instructors for the Education program
    • Designs and implements an onboarding process, tracking progress for new and advancing EDU instructors
    • Manages the process of staffing instructors at upcoming EDU and DEV workshops
    • Oversees instructor internship program
    • Develops, revises and disseminates curricular resources, surveys, and materials to the community of Moth instructors
    • Supports and supervises instructors in the field during EDU workshops and residencies via basecamp check-ins, observations, feedback sessions, lesson planning support etc.
    • Plans, facilitates (or hires facilitators) for instructor trainings, PD workshops and meet-ups
    • Evaluates instructors and implements policies for maintaining program quality
    • Teaches within Education program (number/year to be determined in collaboration with Sr. Mgr)

    Teacher Professional Development

    • Manage content for teacher professional development workshops (# based on KPIs)
    • Manage the Moth Teacher Institute’s curriculum and content, including:
      • Hiring Instructors for Cohorts and Specialty Workshops
      • Casting (and in some cases, directing) the opening One-Act
      • Curriculum (w/ Sr. Manager)
      • Teacher SLAM
      • Keynote and Cohort Content
      • Specialty Workshop Curriculum Development
      • Alumni Panel casting and content development

    Curriculum

    • Design and update program models - incl. curriculum design, implementation, evaluation, & revision (w/ Sr. Manager)
    • Manage Monthly Storytelling School Blog - draft blogs and/or secure guest writers with Program Outreach Coordinator
    • Manages content/ curation of creative projects such as animated stories and short films as curriculum resources in collaboration with the EDU team and other creative stakeholders

    High School and College Curation

    • Along with the entire EDU team, review EDU stories recommend stories for wider distribution
    • Manages the creative aspects of the EDU GrandSLAM, including casting, directing, staffing additional directors, and organizing the dress rehearsal
    • In collaboration with the EDU and Creative teams, assists with teller outreach, give story notes at rehearsal, and leads pre-show warmups for the EDU Showcase

    SALARY: The salary for this position is $77,000 and is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, organization needs, and internal pay equity. This salary is part of a competitive total rewards structure inclusive of medical, dental, and vision coverage, generous PTO, sick leave, and a retirement savings plan after one year of service.
