    Description

    Role overview:

    As the Program Specialist for High Growth Industries at New Women New Yorkers (NWNY), you will spearhead initiatives aimed at preparing immigrant women for successful careers in high-growth industries such as clean energy, finance, technology, and education. Approximately two-thirds of your focus will be on clean energy initiatives, reflecting the strategic importance of this sector to NWNY's work with our Career Pathways Program. Collaboration with the CEO, Director of Workforce Programs, and other NWNY Program Staff is key to ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals and participant needs.

    Portfolio overview:

    The Program Specialist’s portfolio includes overseeing NWNY’s initiatives focused on connecting immigrant women with career opportunities in high-growth industries. You will collaborate with NWNY Program Staff and with external partners to develop and facilitate a diverse set of workforce development initiatives. Key areas of focus will include industry exposure and career exploration, participant skill-building, and employer partnerships.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Strategic Planning & Team Collaboration:
      • Stay informed about workforce trends and evolving opportunities in high-growth sectors, ensuring NWNY’s programs and resources remain relevant and impactful.
      • Collaborate with NWNY Leadership to align high-growth industry initiatives with broader organizational goals.
      • Work closely with NWNY Program Staff to integrate high-growth industry exposure and career readiness activities across the entire participant experience.
    • Partnership Development & Program Execution:
      • Engage in ongoing learning and networking through industry-specific events and collaborations with organizations like NYSERDA.
      • Develop partnerships with key companies across various high-growth sectors to facilitate company sessions, career fairs, field trips, and work-based learning programs, and provide job referral and placement opportunities for NWNY participants.
      • Collaborate with NWNY Program Staff to recruit and facilitate the training and participation of professionals from high-growth industries in NWNY’s panel series, clinics, and group mentoring programs.
      • Support other Queens & Staten Island Clean Energy Hub partners in facilitating workshops and other initiatives to promote clean energy education and awareness.
    • Curriculum Design:
      • Develop curriculum for workshops and panels to introduce immigrant women to career pathways in high-demand industries.
      • Develop curriculum for training of volunteer professionals for company sessions, clinics, and other programs, in collaboration with NWNY Program Staff.
      • Work with the CEO and Director of Workforce Programs to design and pilot innovative soft skill curricula tailored to the clean energy industry.
    • Participant Support & Career Guidance:
      • Provide 1:1 career counseling to NWNY participants exploring high-growth career pathways.
      • Provide orientation & referrals to job seekers interested in learning more about career pathways into the clean energy industry, as part of participation in NYSERDA-supported Queens & Staten Island Clean Energy Hub.
    • Data Management & Impact Assessment:
      • Collect comprehensive data using Salesforce to track participant engagement, training completion, and employment outcomes within high-growth sectors.
      • Regularly report on program impact, using data to evaluate program success and identify areas for improvement.
    • Community Engagement & Outreach:
      • Develop content for NWNY newsletters and social media to provide clean energy and other high-growth industry education and career guidance. Collaborate with NWNY staff overseeing NWNY communications to run special awareness-building campaigns.
      • Represent NWNY at external events focused on high-growth industries, enhancing visibility and building partnerships with employers, industry experts, and community leaders.

    Requirements & desired skills and experience

    • Teamwork and collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with colleagues, contribute to a positive team environment, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Partnership-building experience: Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining ongoing collaborative relationships with partners. Experience working with stakeholders in high-growth industries, particularly clean energy, is a plus but not required.
    • Communication skills: Strong oral and written communication abilities with attention to detail, enabling effective relationship-building with partners, stakeholders, and team members.
    • Organizational and time management skills: Strong organizational abilities with proven success in multitasking, problem-solving, and managing priorities.
    • Interpersonal skills & growth mindset: Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with a demonstrated ability to show empathy, patience, and flexibility when working with participants and partners. A positive growth mindset and adaptability are essential.
    • Technology proficiency: Proficient in using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms is a plus.
    • Experience with underserved communities: Experience working with underserved and marginalized populations and/or in workforce development is a plus but not required.
    • Professionalism and passion: High level of professionalism with enthusiasm for NWNY’s mission and goals, demonstrating a commitment to empowering immigrant women and fostering their success in high-growth industries.

    • This is a full-time non-exempt position as per the FSLA at 40 hours per week. NWNY operating hours are generally M-F 9am - 5pm.
    • Annual salary of $60,000, benefits package including 15 days of paid time off + 2 set weeks of organization-wide vacation, employer contribution to health insurance (medical, vision, and dental), 401(k) with employer matching, professional development and other stipends.
    • Hybrid work model, with 3 days in NWNY’s Manhattan office per week and participation in in-person meetings and programming as needed, ability to work remotely rest of the time.
