    Overview & Summary

    The Prevention & Outreach Specialist assists in the execution of the agency’s Violence Prevention Strategy through the delivery of prevention education, the distribution of awareness materials, and by engaging in various community outreach efforts. The Prevention Program’s goal is to reduce the prevalence of domestic/intimate partner/dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, child abuse, and bullying in the Wayne County community.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    1. Delivers prevention education on child sexual abuse, sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, stalking, and trafficking to students at local school districts, using evidence-based, trauma-informed curricula.
    2. Delivers educational prevention and awareness programming to civic organizations, school faculty/staff, service and professional organizations, businesses, faith communities, private groups, and other community partners.
    3. Educates survivors and facilitates survivor support groups in small-group settings within schools, community centers, and institutional settings.
    4. Develops strategic relationships with community stakeholders; including organizations serving children, sports organizations, men’s organizations, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions.
    5. Provides trainings to community members, service organizations, educators, volunteers, and SACFL staff.
    6. Attends community engagement and outreach events, including attending meetings of community partnership organizations.
    7. Distributes awareness and prevention materials throughout the community.
    8. Assists in the creation, development, and executing of a community-wide outreach strategy and the ongoing development of the Violence Prevention Strategy.
    9. Maintains client records and documentation of trainings and services. Collects data, prepares and reports program statistics by set deadlines, and as assigned.
    10. Attends ongoing trainings/conferences annually, and as assigned.
    11. Maintains confidentiality of clients and SACFL records.
    12. Attends agency and community meetings as scheduled.
    13. Reliably performs all assigned duties.
    14. Takes initiative on assigned and unassigned tasks.

    Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

    1. Strong written and public speaking skills, including strong presentation and teaching skills for both youth and adult audiences.
    2. Strong interpersonal skills; including a demonstrated ability to listen actively, effectively convey complex information, maintain professional boundaries, and display empathy.
    3. Ability to remain non-judgmental when working with all types of people and during complex situations.
    4. A passion for raising awareness, providing education, and preventing future instances of IPV, SA, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse, Stalking, and Bullying.
    5. Ability to travel locally, statewide, and/or nationally, as needed.
    6. Ability to respond effectively to unexpected situations and adapt quickly in changing situations.
    7. Respect for diversity and a commitment to cultural competency.
    8. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders.
    9. Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
    10. Ability to adhere to a flexible work schedule, including working K-12 school hours, and occasional evenings/weekends as needed.
    11. Must have a valid New York State driver’s license, and the minimum auto insurance on personal vehicle that is deemed necessary in the SACFL Personnel Policy.
    12. Must pass a completed background check (including fingerprinting). The SACFL uses background checks for employment purposes, and follows all state and federal laws and guidelines.
    13. Upon Hiring: Completion of 40-hour NYS Rape Crisis Counselor Certification; 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocacy Training; and other trainings required by NYS, Grantors, and SACFL Training Manager.

    Additional Qualifications:

    1. Experience and/or knowledge in the fields of K-12 education, adult education, special education, pedagogy, and/or adult learning is preferred.
    2. Knowledge of domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, sexual assault, stalking, and/or bullying is preferred.
    3. Experience working with survivors of DV/IPV, SA, Stalking, Trafficking, Child Abuse, and/or Bullying is a plus.
    4. Fluency in more than one language is a plus.
