    Position Overview:

    The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at ABIC plays a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of ABIC’s priorities and ensuring adequate infrastructure exists to support its mission. Serving as the second-in-command for the organization, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) works to advance the organization’s mission, broad goals and priorities as set by the Executive Director; to that end, their duties include overseeing the organization’s day-to-day operations, financial management and health, compliance and efficiency, implementation of projects, strong internal communications, staff management, organizational culture, and cross departmental coordination. A member of ABIC’s Senior Management Team, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) partners with other Senior Management Team leaders to ensure organizational effectiveness and the success of its priorities, policies, and programs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure the organization has enough infrastructure and resourcing to implement the campaigns and priorities established by the Executive Director (with the Board of Directors). This includes (but is not limited to) ensuring ABIC:
      • Builds and utilizes processes for strategy development, annual work plans, budgeting, and financial management
      • Engages in effective project and data management,
      • Managing the relationship with and oversight of ABIC's external auditors.
      • Oversees the management of ABIC's internal systems and security infrastructure.
      • Makes clear decisions that are communicated in a timely manner across departments and the full staff team
      • Adapts and adjusts in response to the changing circumstances of its campaigns
      • Ensures the organizations digital and physical security needs are met
      • Engages in reflection, evaluation and adaptation
    • Provide support to the Executive Director in developing a strong and effective senior leadership team, including:
      • Supports the creation of a strong and healthy senior leadership team culture
      • Develops senior leadership team meeting agendas and track action items
      • Ensures accountability to action items
      • Promotes effective cross-departmental coordination and communication
    • Serve as the primary financial leader at ABIC, overseeing all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, including:
      • Leads the annual budgeting process and provides strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
      • Manages all financial staff and consultants
      • Ensures regular and accurate financial statements are being produced for the Executive Director and Board
      • Ensures compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements for 501(c)(3)s and 501(c)(4)s.
      • Manages and maintains strong financial controls and systems to safeguard ABIC's assets.
      • Oversees the organization's audit process and 990 filings.
      • Ensures the sophistication of the financial systems are assessed and deepened
    • Collaborate with other departments to align financial goals with programmatic priorities and organizational objectives.
    • Collaborate with other staff to secure the capital needed for ABIC to reach its financial objectives
    • Ensure the staff is well-led and supervised and foster a healthy staff culture rooted in ABIC’s shared values, a commitment to the mission, and continuous improvement.
    • Drive efficiency and innovation in operations, identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
    • Support the Executive Director in developing the Board of Directors including preparing for Board meetings and working with Board committees as assigned
    • Supervise and manage the other members of the senior leadership team including but not limited to Director of Operations, Director of Finance, Director of Development, and any additional senior teams members as maybe added. Would also coordinate with the Director of Campaigns and Director of Communications who report to the Executive Director
    • Manage and lead the organization in the absence of the Executive Director
    • Reports to the Executive Director
    • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

    Qualifications:

    • Commitment to ABIC’s mission and capacity to work effectively with high level business leaders across the political spectrum for common sense immigration reform
    • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
    • 10+ years of professional experience in nonprofit leadership, financial management, organizational development and/or administration.
    • Experience working in a campaign style organization that is fast paced and highly adaptive
    • Proven track record of overseeing budgeting processes and financial operations in complex organizations.
    • Experience with organizational development and management
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated leadership and staff management ability, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
    • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a commitment to excellence.
    • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance requirements for non-profit organizations.
    • Comfort with data management to prove out results and specifically Everyaction
    • Comfort with Asana for project work tracking
    • Familiarity with google suite
