    Looking for an adventure? Majuro Cooperative School is seeking an experienced history teacher for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years.

    Position Description:

    Under the supervision the Principal, the High School teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to meet or exceed academic expectations. The Co-op teacher’s primary role is to prepare students for higher learning and purposeful membership in society, as described in the Co-op mission statement and Expected School Wide Learning Results.

    Middle School/High School Teacher Expectations:

    The duties and responsibilities expected to be performed and carried out by the Teacher include but are not limited to the following:

    • Instruction of students in accordance with the prescribed program of instruction and at a level consistent with the students’ ability. U.S. Common Core Standards are to be followed in all core subjects
    • Administer and report required assessments in a timely manner and provide documentation of these assessments to the Literacy Coordinator and Principal

    Current required school-wide assessments include: Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System and NWEA MAP required for documentation of progress

    • Designs and implements weekly instructional lessons with standards and objectives that are targeted to meet the academic needs of all students and differentiated for students’ needs
    • Provides support and collaborates with teachers as necessary, and all other staff members to ensure all scholars receive necessary supports and services
    • Uses a data-driven approach to modify/adapt instructional plans in order to maximize student learning
    • Provides a positive learning environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process
    • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures of academic and behavioral outcomes (attendance, progress reports, report cards, etc.)

    Professional Relationships & Expectations:

    • Respect for Marshallese Manit (culture) in dress and behavior
    • Models Expected Schoolwide Learning Results and can effectively communicate school mission and vision in a compelling manner
    • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals
    • Collaborates with peers to maximize student learning and enhance instructional environment
    • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community
    • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, collaborating with peers, punctuality, and working with parents to maximize scholar learning
    • Facilitates teacher-parent relationships in the areas of academics, discipline, and student support services
    • Schedules private parent teacher conferences as necessary and/or requested when students have difficulty academically or behaviorally. Participation in school wide parent teacher conferences at end of first and third quarter is required
    • Makes referrals and conducts follow-up for students in need of support services (i.e. counseling, emergency assistance, tutoring, etc.); works in conjunction with principal, special education teacher, and parents

    Additional Expectations:

    • Teachers are to be on campus and available for consultation with parents, students, and staff between the hours of 7:45 and 4:00, daily. (This does not include a 30 minute duty free lunch period.) Two days a week are to 4:30 pm (one day meeting & one day for student activity)
    • Attend school events and functions throughout the school year (Halloween Carnival, Holiday Show, Graduation and Talent Show are some of these events)
    • Teachers attend monthly staff meetings, monthly/quarterly PTA meetings, Team Planning Time (TPT) meetings, and participate in at least one committee for school improvement
    • Participation and support in the WASC accreditation process
    • Ensure all certification paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner

    Qualifications:

    • Belief and alignment with school’s core beliefs and educational philosophy
    • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferred
    • Flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take directions as needed
    • Ability to work with students and their families in a variety of capacities
    • Ability to pinpoint issues causing academic failure and identify appropriate solutions
    • Ability to consistently and fairly articulate and enforce school rules
    • Ability to organize and maintain student files
    • Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong communication and ability to build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders
    • Bachelor’s degree required and teaching certification preferred

    Compensation:

    We offer a compensation package based on a 2 year contract. Our compensation package includes: roundtrip airfare to and from your home at the beginning and end of your contract, pay based on experience, housing, and an electricity allowance.
