    Status: Full Time/Exempt (40 hours/ week)

    Salary: $71,431/ year

    Location: Position is based in New York City and will require occasional travel within New York State.

    Position Description:

    Under the supervision of the Senior Policy Strategist, the Manager of Education Policy will support the identification of barriers immigrant New Yorkers face in accessing a quality education; uplift policy solutions; and work with local, state, and national partners, external coalitions, and officials to secure implementation of recommendations. The Manager will be key in coordinating a local coalition, contributing meaningfully to state coalitions, conducting policy analysis, developing policy materials, supporting campaigns as appropriate within the NYIC’s campaign priority structure, and representing the education program with officials, allies, and through coalitions.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Manages the K-12 portfolio, including:
      • Leads policy analysis (local, state, and federal) on K-12 education issues affecting New York State’s immigrant communities.
      • Monitors political developments impacting New York’s immigrant students and relevant organizations’ positions on emerging issues (e.g., ally and partner organizations, as well as opponents).
      • Works closely with members and allies to identify key issues for New York State’s immigrant students in our public school system.
      • Represents the NYIC with partner organizations to define the education program’s K-12 policy priorities, draft the NYIC’s education policy agenda(s), and support developing the advocacy strategy.
    • Coordinates the NYIC’s Education Collaborative, a cohort of community-based, NYIC member organizations focused on K-12 education issues. Organizes an annual Fall retreat, monthly meetings, and an annual Spring rally.
    • Supports a statewide coalition of K-12 education advocates focused on state-level K-12 policy analysis and advocacy.
    • Represents the NYIC at key meetings with local, and regional officials related to K-12 education, national immigrant education partners, provides testimony as required, and fields requests to support media.
    • Advances the NYIC's impact in the education space by developing our members' ability and capacity to effectively advocate for issues impacting immigrant families in New York's public school system.
    • Develops and grows relationships with partners and allies involved in K-12 policy and advocacy work and identifies relevant new groups to bring into NYIC work.
    • Collaborates with the Development team to report qualitative and quantitative grant deliverables to funders, supports funder cultivation, conceptualizes initiatives, and reviews drafts of narratives.

    Qualifications

    • 2-4 years of relevant experience in education policy required, including research and writing policy materials.
    • Knowledge of the K-12 education field required, preferably in New York City or New York State.
    • Advocacy and organizing experience a strong plus.
    • Experience in leading, representing, or participating in coalition work preferred.
    • Strong project management, writing, communication skills, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
    • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and meeting facilitation skills.
    • Good team player, very comfortable taking initiative, and able to adapt as necessary to changing circumstances.
    • Experience collaborating with multiple, diverse partners working with underserved & diverse communities with an emphasis on education.
    • Knowledge of and commitment to social justice, immigrant justice, and NY’s immigrant communities.
    • Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines.
    • Proficiency in Spanish or another language spoken in immigrant communities in NYC is strongly preferred.
    • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
    • Authorized to work in the US for any employer.
    • Salary: $71,431.*
