    Position Description

    Juma Ventures (Juma) is seeking an experienced fundraiser and nonprofit leader to help fuel its mission in its Seattle, Washington site. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Seattle Director of Development will play a critical role in Juma's impact on the young people it serves across the region.

    They will, individually and in conjunction with the national development team, help sustain and grow Juma’s local base of philanthropic support.

    This position requires exceptional drive and passion for our work and a commitment to working in partnership with local philanthropic communities. You’ll be a strategic fundraiser with outstanding donor cultivation and stewardship skills. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively with peers across departments while demonstrating resourcefulness, flexibility, and high professionalism.

    The Seattle Director of Development will also support partnership development across Juma’s social enterprise and youth programming activities, serving as a senior leader for the site team.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Managing and growing a portfolio of regional institutional and individual funders with a current annual fundraising goal of $750,000, leading donors through the cultivation and stewardship cycles. Juma anticipates a 5-8% year-over-year growth in its site budget and fundraising goal. The Seattle Director of Development will position the site for long-term sustainability by focusing on the following areas:

    External Fundraising (70% of the time)

    • Institutional Funders: An estimated portfolio of 30 donors, currently contributing $650,000 annually
      • In partnership with the Site Manager, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Development Officer, manage and serve as the relationship lead for Seattle institutional funders, focusing on building intentional and effective partnerships.
      • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Senior Director of Institutional Giving, create compelling grant proposals and ongoing funder reports to corporations, foundations, and government entities, including:
        • Writing and assembling all necessary attachments, such as budgets, with key input from Juma’s Development, Program, and Finance teams.
        • Acting as the key liaison between Juma National staff, Juma Seattle staff, and institutional funders.
    • Individual Funders: An estimated portfolio of 50 donors, currently contributing $100,000 annually
      • In partnership with the Director of Individual Giving and the Individual Giving Manager, identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward Seattle individual donors with an eye to connect and engage with high-net-worth individuals likely to make and increase their gifts in the future.
      • Collaborate with the Director of Individual Giving and the Individual Giving Manager to create and establish an annual Seattle individual giving plan, ensuring innovative cultivation and stewardship activities and events are held.
      • Create compelling campaigns and collateral supporting Juma’s annual spring and end-of-the-year campaigns.

    Local Advisory Board Leadership (20% of the time)

    In partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Individual Giving, lead the Seattle Local Advisory Board, composed of community professionals, Juma champions, and alumnae of our program. The Seattle Director of Development will:

    • Lead the work of and act as the organization liaison for the advisory board, partnering with board members to develop and implement an annual engagement strategy.
    • Lead the planning and execution of Advisory Board meetings and supported initiatives/events.

    Local Site Leadership (10% of the time)

    The Seattle Director of Development will help deepen the impact our program has on youth by:

    • Collaborating with the site and national team to align core department goals and workflow (across Development, Program, and Social Enterprise departments)

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, private, or public sectors.
    • Proven track record in driving relationships with philanthropic institutions and individuals investing in six-figure grants/gifts.
    • Strong connections across the Seattle nonprofit and philanthropic communities.
    • Skilled in creating robust, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising, including the ability to convey complex ideas through simple and brief materials.
    • Proficiency in Salesforce (or other CRM Systems such as Raiser’s Edge).
    • Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and respect for youth development principles and youth leadership and culture.
    • An advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
    • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
    • Self-starter, motivated, and able to take initiative in all situations; ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and inclusive environment.

    Job Details

    Reports to: Chief Development Officer

    Job Location: Seattle, Washington

    Salary: $85,000- $95,000

    Classification: Full-time, exempt

    Hours/Week: 40 hours

    Hybrid Work Environment: Juma maintains a hybrid work environment. The Director of Development will be expected to work out of the organization’s Seattle Office two days per week, potentially moving to 3 days per week, pending business needs. Additionally, as this is an external-facing fundraising role, they must travel throughout the region to attend meetings per business needs.

    Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
