    Position

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Harboring Hearts provides executive level vision and strategic leadership for the organization. The focus of this role will be creating future sustainability, by developing and implementing a plan for growth and expansion. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be the key ambassador of the organization. The CEO will lead the strategic direction of the organization and be responsible for articulating the vision, leading all fundraising efforts and providing support to the day-to-day administrative functions of the organization. The CEO will assure that the organization, its mission, and programs are consistently presented with a strong, positive image to all stakeholders. The CEO will support and supervise all staff and consultants and will have a deep understanding of the organization’s programs and support the development of new programs.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Organizational development:

    • Establish annual organizational goals through a strategic planning process that includes the timelines and strategies to achieve them
    • Strengthen existing and foster new programmatic and fundraising partnerships
    • Streamline reporting for all stakeholders

    Development/fundraising:

    • Create and implement an annual fundraising strategy and achieve all fundraising goals
    • Increase fundraising $1,120,000 million annually in the short term, with increased fundraising successes year after year thereafter
    • Develop, plan and implement all fundraising events, including key annual event
    • Maintain strong relationships with high level existing donors and establish new relationships
    • Engage strategically in partnership development and management
    • Research new funding sources and develop new revenue streams
    • Research grant opportunities and submit grant proposals for these opportunities
    • Manage development staff

    Program oversight and development:

    • Support the development, planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting processes for the organization's programs and services
    • Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission, meet a critical community need, and reflect the priorities of the Board
    • Develop, maintain or improve programmatic partnerships with hospitals, organizations, communities, and individuals
    • Communicate with the Board and stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization

    Financial management:

    • Develop an annual budget and maintain monthly financial statements
    • Work with staff and accountant to understand monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
    • Manage organization’s resources within budget guidelines
    • Manage any finance staff

    Visibility:

    • Oversee & guide the organization’s public profile, communications, and public relations including all social media representation
    • Leverage external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities
    • In partnership with Founder & Co-founder, serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization
    • Represent the organization at public events

    Board development:

    • Ensure the Board members have the necessary information about organizational issues to execute their duties responsibly
    • Prepare materials and agendas for board meetings (3 per year)
    • Seek out and cultivate relationships with potential Board members, grow the Board
    • Create Advisory/Honorary Board
    • Provide guidance and management for the Board
    • Manage and cultivate the thriving Junior Board

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 10 years demonstrated success in nonprofit leadership experience
    • Extensive fundraising success in a non profit setting
    • Experience in managing support staff (HR experience a plus)
    • Experience working in a small non profit or start up (a plus)
    • Strategic thinker
    • Visionary but also detailed oriented
    • Understanding of how to leave your ego at the door
    • Creative, glass half full mindset
    • Lover of building relationships
    • Determined problem solver, enjoys challenges
    • Based in Tri-state area
