    ABOUT ABRIENDO PUERTAS/OPENING DOORS

    Launched in 2007, AP-OD (Abriendo Puertas-Opening Doors) developed the nation’s first evidence-based leadership training program designed by and for Latino parents with children ages 0-5 and adopted by diverse communities across the country. The mission of AP-OD is to support Latino parents as leaders of their families and as their child’s first and most influential teacher in a home that is their child's first school. AP-OD uses a two-generation approach that invests in parents and caregivers to build leadership skills for promoting family well-being and positive outcomes for children.

    AP-OD is a fiscally sponsored project of Tides Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Communications and Marketing Support Specialist will report to the Strategic Marketing Manager and collaborate with senior staff to support various communication efforts. These efforts include earned media, social media management, digital projects (such as website content and updates), internal communications, stakeholder communications, and branding and marketing initiatives. Additionally, the Communications and Marketing Support Specialist will assist in sharing success stories through our social media accounts and newsletter, and improve the organization and segmentation of our contact list.

    Self-motivation, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects are essential for this position. The role requires a proactive and creative problem-solver with exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to educational equity and family engagement.

    This role is primarily remote; however, the selected candidate must be willing to travel occasionally to Albuquerque, NM, and Los Angeles, CA. They may need to attend meetings and complete certain tasks that require in-person collaboration. The role is part-time and non-exempt, with opportunities for growth within the organization.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in managing AP-OD’s presence on social media platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, LinkTree, etc.), including content creation, scheduling, and engagement.
    • Draft engaging posts that include writing, designing imagery using Canva or a similar platform, and preparing relevant hashtags and handle tags.
    • Highlight partner posts, news, and other relevant content for amplification.
    • Work with the Strategic Marketing Manager to analyze and monitor social media trends and measure content effectiveness.
    • Utilize Google Analytics to assess campaign performance and overall traffic patterns in order to optimize strategies.
    • Collect information from team members and organize it for the monthly newsletter in a timely manner.
    • Review and proofread newsletters, memos, and other materials for clarity and accuracy.
    • Track the open, click, and conversion rates of segmented email lists across various campaigns and topics.
    • Assist in improving the organization and utilization of segmented contact lists.
    • Utilize existing branding guidelines to support the development of communications materials such as one-page briefs, toolkits, presentations, or infographics.
    • Monitor analytics and create reports to measure the outcomes of communications efforts.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and execute campaigns that promote AP-OD’s mission and programs.
    • Assist in creating, scheduling, and monitoring social media advertisements, including analyzing performance metrics and optimizing campaigns for better engagement and reach as needed.
    • Provide administrative support as needed, including maintaining communication materials and files; and additional team support duties as assigned.
    • Coordinate photography for events, activities, etc. for use in publications, media, etc., ensuring appropriate releases are signed and filed.
    • Update and support the maintenance of AP-OD’s website content using WordPress, ensuring that it is current, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals as needed.
    • Assist in writing press releases, statements, media advisories, op-eds, and other communications materials as needed.
    • Prepare reports as required.

    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and quickly learn new software.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copy machines, etc;
    • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written skills in both languages, is highly preferred.

    EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

    • A Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of related experience or an associate degree with 3 or more years of relevant experience in a company, non-profit, or similar organization may be considered sufficient to successfully perform essential job duties.
    • A high degree of comfort with technology, including social media platforms.
    • Experience in creating, scheduling, and monitoring social media advertisements, including performance metrics analysis and campaign optimization for engagement and reach.
    • Basic graphic design skills and experience with design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) preferred and some experience with CRM database management.
    • Experience with website content management systems, particularly WordPress.
    • Familiarity with platforms such as LearnWorlds, Zoom, Google Workspace, MailChimp, EveryAction (Bonterra), and Monday.com.

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

    The Communications and Marketing Support Specialist reports to the Strategic Marketing Manager and works collaboratively with staff and contractors.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to travel as needed.
    • Occasionally must be able to move office supplies and equipment weighing up to 15 pounds across the office or during events.
