    HUM is dedicated to addressing the immediate and long-term needs of those experiencing homelessness. The organization offers a comprehensive array of programs designed to uplift and support individuals and families on their journey towards self-sufficiency. Key services include:

      • Food Distribution: Providing nutritious meals and groceries to those in need through community food pantries and meal programs.
      • Emergency Shelter: Offering safe and secure temporary housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, ensuring they have a place to stay while they work towards stable housing.
      • Housing Assistance: Helping clients secure permanent housing through various initiatives, including rental assistance, supportive housing programs, and partnerships with local landlords.
      • Support Services: Offering case management, counseling, job training, and other resources to help individuals overcome barriers to stability and self-sufficiency.

    Position Overview:

    The Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the HUM. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will manage a team of senior leaders, including the Director of Operations, Director of Finance and HR, and the Director of Development. The ED will be a dynamic, hands-on leader with a deep understanding of non-profit management, organizational development, and fundraising. This individual will have the opportunity to shape the future of HUM by ensuring the organization's financial stability, programmatic effectiveness, and continued growth.

    The ideal candidate will be an innovative, collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can inspire staff at all levels, and is committed to advancing the mission and values of the organization.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Strategic Oversight:

      • Provide visionary leadership to ensure the organization stays aligned with its mission, vision, and values while adapting to evolving community needs.
      • Work in close partnership with the Board of Directors to set strategic goals and key performance indicators, ensuring alignment between strategy and operations.
      • Serve as a key decision-maker for the organization, providing insight, direction, and support to senior leadership and the Board.
      • Lead organizational change, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
      • Ensure the organization's leadership team is empowered, supported, and working cohesively to meet both short-term goals and long-term objectives.

    Team Leadership and Development:

      • Directly manage a leadership team of senior directors: Director of Operations, Director of Finance and HR, and Director of Development.
      • Mentor and coach senior leadership to maximize their professional growth and effectiveness, ensuring that departmental goals align with the organization’s mission.
      • Foster a collaborative environment, promoting cross-departmental communication and team-building to ensure cohesive execution of organizational goals.
      • Oversee performance management, professional development, and retention strategies for senior staff, ensuring the organization has a high-functioning, motivated team at all levels.
      • Collaborate with the HR Director to establish a positive workplace culture based on inclusivity, respect, and clear communication.

    Financial Management and Sustainability:

      • Oversee the Director of Finance and HR in the development and management of the organization’s annual budget, ensuring financial health and sustainability.
      • Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions when necessary, ensuring that all resources are allocated effectively toward mission-driven goals.
      • Work closely with the Director of Finance to ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements, regulatory standards, and tax filings.
      • Lead the development of a diversified funding strategy to ensure long-term financial sustainability, balancing earned revenue, grants, major gifts, and individual donations.
      • Guide the organization’s financial strategies, ensuring that resources are efficiently allocated across programmatic, operational, and development functions.

    Fundraising and Development:

      • Collaborate with the Director of Development to drive the organization’s fundraising strategy, focusing on major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, and special events.
      • Lead the identification and cultivation of high-net-worth donors, foundation partners, and corporate sponsors.
      • Work with the development team to increase the organization’s donor base, ensuring a robust pipeline of funding to support both operational and programmatic growth.
      • Provide strategic direction to fundraising campaigns and stewardship efforts, ensuring that donor engagement is aligned with the organization’s values and goals.
      • Serve as a primary spokesperson for fundraising initiatives, representing the organization at key events, donor meetings, and public forums.

    Program Management and Quality Assurance:

      • Ensure that the Director of Operations oversees effective program design, implementation, and evaluation, ensuring that all services meet high standards of quality and impact.
      • Monitor programmatic outcomes, working with senior leaders to assess program effectiveness, implement improvements, and ensure alignment with community needs.
      • Champion a culture of data-driven decision-making, encouraging the use of metrics, feedback, and evaluation to improve programs and measure impact.
      • Address operational inefficiencies, aligning resources with key priorities and ensuring that programs are adequately resourced to achieve optimal outcomes.

    External Relations and Advocacy:

      • Represent the organization to external audiences, including government entities, funding partners, community leaders, and media outlets.
      • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders to promote the organization’s mission and elevate its visibility within the community.
      • Advocate for the organization’s mission in local, state, and national forums, positioning the ED as a thought leader in [industry or cause area].
      • Act as the chief spokesperson for the organization, ensuring that messaging is consistent, compelling, and in line with the mission.
      • Foster collaborative partnerships with other non-profits, governmental agencies, and private-sector partners to enhance the organization’s reach and impact.

    Board Governance:

      • Act as a strategic partner to the Board of Directors, ensuring that board members are well-informed and able to make effective decisions.
      • Collaborate with the Board to develop governance policies, ensuring that the organization remains compliant with all legal and ethical standards.
      • Provide the Board with clear and timely information regarding organizational performance, strategic direction, and risk management.
      • Support the Board in recruitment and orientation of new members, ensuring that the Board remains diverse, engaged, and effective.

    Qualifications:

      • Minimum experience - 7-10 years of experience in non-profit leadership or other housing-related field, including at least 3 years in an executive director or senior management role.
      • Minimum education - Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in business, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field preferred.
      • Proven success in managing senior leadership teams and fostering collaboration across multiple departments.
      • Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing budgets, financial planning, and reporting.
      • Extensive experience in fundraising, including major gifts, grants, and corporate partnerships.
      • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change, manage complex initiatives, and align resources with strategic priorities.
      • Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
      • A deep understanding of federal, state, and local grants for housing and food insecurity initiatives, as well as a passion for the mission of HUM.
