    OVERVIEW

    The Freeway Park Association (FPA) seeks outgoing, compassionate people to join our team as summer ambassadors. The Park Ambassadors will greet park visitors, set up daily park activations, and facilitate special programs and events. This position will start out as a temporary position with the potential to grow into a permanent position with associated benefits. Two positions available. Ambassadors will typically work together and share job responsibilities. (Schedule varies +/- 30 hours per week to start. $23/hr)

    FPA has been a community steward to Freeway Park since 1993. In partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, FPA activates and advocates for Seattle’s largest and most iconic downtown park. We design programs and services that meet the needs of all park users as we welcome everyone into our shared back-yard to create connections and enjoy nature in the heart of the city.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Park Activation

    • Work with the FPA team to set-up and break-down daily programs and activations in the park including park amenities (chairs, tables, signage, etc.) community chalkboard and other regular activations.
    • Work with the FPA team to coordinate, set-up and break-down of special events in the park, including some evening and weekend events.
    • Assist FPA team in program development and brainstorming sessions to create unique and engaging programs for the park.
    • Ensure park areas are clean and free of debris prior to events/activations. Document events and activations with pictures and reports.
    • Co-lead FPA’s ambassador program, holding weekly ‘office hours’ in the park and ensuring a friendly and helpful environment for all park users.
    • Assist FPA team in creative and engaging outreach with surrounding communities; ie: user survey, event advertising, newsletter creation, partnership development etc.
    • Assist Program Coordinator in FPA’s social media presence.
    • Engage with vulnerable groups present in the parks in a humanitarian and compassionate manner while ensuring the safety of the Park.
    • Assist Park Operations Coordinator to report safety issues, cleanup needs and other landscape/maintenance problems.
    • Using behavioral mapping, conduct daily counts and observations of park users at regular times.
    • Construct weekly reports containing stats, updates and synopsis of past week events.

    AND

    • Other commensurate duties as assigned.
    • Participate in programming and have fun!

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required

    • Interest in public space, parks and community service.
    • Must be a true "people person," comfortable approaching and talking to new people and small groups.
    • Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages and abilities.
    • Ability to handle stressful situations, demonstrating calm under pressure.
    • Self-motivated, energetic learner with a good sense of humor.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
    • Knowledge of and comfortability working in Downtown Seattle.
    • Willing to work outside in all-weather conditions for long shifts.
    • Willingness and ability to lift and move heavy equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.

    Desired

    • Experience working in event planning and/or event support.
    • Customer service experience.
    • Interest in and demonstrated experience with volunteerism.
    • Experience with outreach in a social services and/or humanitarian capacity.

    DETAILS

    This position is temporary, part-time, non-exempt and hourly. Schedule is flexible and hours will vary according to the event schedule and will include some nights and weekends. There is potential that this position could transition to a full time, permanent position at FPA in/around September 2025.

    • The majority of the Park Ambassador job duties will occur inside Freeway Park (at 700 Seneca St) as well as some hours in the FPA office (at 601 Union Street). Some work-from-home hours may be needed as well.
