    The Train Foundation, which administers the annual Civil Courage Prize, is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating extraordinary acts of civil courage in face of great evil. Our awards program honors individuals who have taken principled stands at great personal risk, defended democratic values, and protected others in the face of injustice.

    Position Overview

    At a pivotal moment in our organization's growth, we seek a visionary and strategic part-time Executive Director to lead our Foundation into its next phase. This part-time role combines executive leadership, strategic vision, and passionate advocacy for civil courage in public life. The Executive Director will shape the Foundation's strategic direction, lead fundraising efforts, oversee or execute all programs and operations, and serve as the organization's public representative.

    Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership

    • Chart the Foundation's strategic direction in collaboration with the Board of Directors
    • Work with the Board and its committees
    • Expand the Foundation's reach, impact and influence

    Fundraising

    • Lead major donor cultivation and stewardship efforts
    • Identify partner organizations with parallel missions
    • Identify potential grant opportunities

    Program Development & Impact

    • Oversee the Civil Courage Prize program and events, including:
      • Oversee selection process in coordination with CCP administrators
      • Plan and execute annual prize ceremony
      • Expand event participation
      • Explore potential public education programs
      • Develop impact measurements to evaluate

    Communications and External Relations

    • Oversee communications strategy and brand development
    • Serve as the Foundation's primary spokesperson and thought leader
    • Develop and execute traditional media and social media strategy and presence
    • Build strategic partnerships with organizations, academic institutions, and media

    Financial & Administrative Oversight

    • Promote sound fiscal management and sustainable growth
    • Develop and monitor annual budgets and financial strategies
    • Maintain highest standards of governance and compliance

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Competitive executive-level salary range: prorated, based on an annual full-time salary of $120,000

    Board Reporting Relationship

    Reports directly to the Board of Directors, with regular interaction with the Board Chair and committee chairs. Serves as an ex-officio member of board committees, as appropriate.

    Hours and Location

    The Train Foundation is headquartered in New York City. The Executive Director will work remotely but should be available to attend meetings and events in the NYC area. It is anticipated that the Executive Director will work an average of 20 hours/week, with the workload varying at different times of year depending on projects.
