    Description

    The Data and Analytics Director makes decisions about which voters and members of the general public are likely to be engaged on clean economy issues and campaigns, and maintains voter file information that permits the organization to educate the public and motivate supporters to become active civic participants in an efficient manner. This position will be housed in the Campaigns Department, but will work across the entire organization to develop and oversee data and targeting related activities on issues and elections. We seek a strategic thinker who can help ACE and its sister organization, Climate Education Advocates (CEA), utilize data and analytics to engage environmentally-minded citizens (with a particular focus on under-35 years olds) across the country to build support for our strategic priorities.

    The Data Director is primarily responsible for managing ACE’s program databases, CRM, targeting and analytics, while bringing the information in them together to provide breakthrough insights that will power our outreach. The Data & Analytics Director will be a key driver in imbuing a culture of learning and adjustment (both on the quantitative and qualitative sides) across all campaigns.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Database Management

    • Oversee the data architecture of the organization by adding new components, streamlining components, automating pipelines, and monitoring for errors. Ensure all outreach is tracked in the VAN.
    • Strategize and optimize Salesforce CRM and SQL database architecture, including managing objects/tables, workflows, managing automated data merging/cleaning, process builders and other administrative tasks.
    • Work with our team to spot data anomalies and inaccuracies, take corrective and preventive measures and ensure process compliance with all stakeholders. Maintain our in-house VAN and continually improve user experience.

    Data Visualization & Analysis

    • Bring together data from different sources to create user-friendly interactive dashboards/reports.
    • Explore data and actively uncover and disseminate and present insights to teams.
    • Compile standard and ad hoc reports for internal teams and funders.

    Project Management

    • Work with team members and leadership across the organization to help track and report relevant data.
    • Ensure that tasks and capacity are matched and resource additional capacity as needed.
    • Recruit, onboard and manage department staff to meet departmental goals.

    Ability to work overtime with little notice; able to work hours exceeding stated office hours to get the job done.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate for this role will be excited to dive into concurrent sophisticated campaigns, and is highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, exceptionally collaborative, proactive, persistent and has the following experiences and skills sets, at minimum:

    • 5+ years of experience on either issue advocacy or electoral campaigns focused on voter contact, data management, experimentation and targeting. Must have experience with utilizing modeling in a campaign setting.
    • Self-starter eager to dive into improving and creating systems, with the flexibility to adapt to changing environments.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects with thoroughness, accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism.
    • Strong data management skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; proficient with VAN, Targetsmart, Catalist Q & M tools and other data management tools; proficiency with SQL or other similar languages; understanding of and commitment to testing and running metric-based programs.
    • Fluency required OR ability to learn: Tableau, Salesforce (preferred), Monday.com, Engaging Networks, Slack, Google Apps, Google Data Studio, Zoom, and other relevant programs as necessary.
    • Deep understanding of strategic use of data; ability to collaborate well with others; works well in a fast-paced environment and able to multitask without sacrificing quality of work; ability to communicate effectively about complex topics; ability to translate analysis into a digestible and actionable format; understanding of environmental issues and their potential to engage the public a plus.
    • Working knowledge of campaign communication tools and techniques.
    • Ability to manage and analyze data in SQL, Python, R, or a similar scripted tool.
    • Collaborative and communicative work style to work with colleagues in the Campaigns Department and across ACE. Relatedly, brings excitement to bring new ideas to the table and engage others in data systems.
    • Experience translating non-technical requests into technical requirements, and technical jargon into plain language for a range of audiences.
