    Description

    The Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD) is recruiting a consultant to serve as Chief of Staff for its India program team to focus on climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience, ideally with some experience with non-CO2 mitigation. The consultancy is suitable for early to mid-career professionals. The candidate should have a public-interest spirit and desire to help avoid catastrophic climate impacts. Good writing skills are essential. The contract is for one year, with the possibility of an extension for a second year.

    Core responsibilities: As part of the team, the Chief of Staff will work closely with the Director of the India program and play a key role in generating policy research to be used by sub-national governments for achieving mitigation of SLCP emissions. This research will be guided by cutting-edge science, and relevant policy and regulatory mechanisms.The Chief of Staff will be required to track important developments in the sector, supporting the Director in managing external partnerships, assisting with fundraising efforts, carry exhaustive research on climate policies, publish analyses and policy recommendations related to SLCPs in Indian states, and also work on internal research briefs and policy memos.

    Abilities required

    • Strong research and analytical skills;
    • Strong writing and communication skills;
    • Good quantitative skills with an ability to analyse and represent data accurately;
    • Familiarity with environmental modelling and data analysis;
    • Ability to work independently while being a team player;
    • Ability to multi-task and deliver quality work in a timely way;
    • Objective thinking and openness to ideas.

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree or a professional degree in management, law, economics, environmental science, environmental policy, or a related field.

    This is a remote consultancy with a preferred location in Washington, DC.
