    Job Summary: The Vice President of Communications is tasked with developing, leading, and executing ECU’s communications, press, and digital strategy. In this role, the VP will oversee staff at a variety of career and experience levels within their department. They will join a collaborative work environment and partner with ECU’s President, Executive Director and the rest of the executive team to ensure the organization is a leading voice nationally and at the state level on issues related to democracy, money in politics, voting rights, and corruption.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Manage three areas of the organization: communications, press and digital.
    • Develop and implement our short and long-term communications plans.
    • Guide the organization’s press and earned media efforts, including serving as an on-the-record spokesperson.
    • Oversee the development and execution of our digital strategy, including social media, videos, websites, and email, while collaborating with teams to ensure consistent, engaging content and analyzing performance.
    • Lead our relationships with members of the media and communications and digital partners.
    • Direct the creation of internal and external materials including talking points, statements, press releases, press notes, memos, emails, and videos, and approve external content from other departments.
    • Identify new ways to expand and promote ECU, the issues we work on and the candidates we support in the press and on social media.
    • Represent ECU publicly in the press, on panels, at meetings, or for other events.
    • Develop and manage project-based and long-term budgets.
    • Engage actively as a senior member of the executive team to help set organizational short and long-term goals and priorities.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications: The VP of Communications must be a self-starter with at least 10 years of political and/or campaign communications experience and a minimum of three cycles in high-level leadership positions. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in communications, media relations, and digital work, with a strong understanding of political messaging and advocacy. Proven success in leading high-profile campaigns, developing compelling narratives for diverse audiences, pitching the media, and serving as an on the record spokesperson is essential. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a deep understanding of digital media and social platforms, are a must. The candidate should also possess strong leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and collaborating across departments to drive organizational goals.     Job Location: This is a remote position, with a strong preference for the employee to live in a state in which ECU currently operates. Regular work-related travel is required.
