    Description

    Immigrant Defenders Law Center (“ImmDef”) is a next-generation, social justice law firm that provides high-quality representation, advocacy and legal services to immigrants in Southern California and beyond. ImmDef was founded on the belief that no immigrant should be forced to face an unjust immigration system alone. Learn more about us at www.immdef.org.

    The Temporary Grants Manager will support ImmDef’s organizational fundraising goals by leading all grant related activities such as conducting research, drafting proposals, and compiling relevant reports. This individual will create and manage a grants calendar and develop the systems and policies to ensure all contractual requirements are met, utilizing strong written/oral communication and collaborative

    skills.

    The Temporary Grants Manager will work closely with leadership and program personnel to ensure funding agreements are satisfactorily processed, implemented, and monitored – with appropriate programs, services, projects, and activities appropriately tracked to meet agreement requirements (i.e.: federal or state agencies, foundations, corporate partners). This individual will maintain and grow partnerships with funders and other partners to help them understand the organizational needs.

    This temporary position reports to the Director of Development and works with the entire Development team to support the overall fundraising goals for the year – which may include helping plan and implement fundraising campaigns, assisting with special events, and other projects as assigned.

    This temporary position is primarily in-person in our downtown Los Angeles office, with occasional travel between other ImmDef offices and other local destinations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Research and identify prospective funders to support both current projects, programs, and initiatives and future ones;
    • Execute the preparation, submission, and management of grant proposals to governmental agencies, foundations, and corporate funders;
    • Review and monitor compliance and contractual requirements of highly complex federal, state, county, and city contracts as well as foundation grants;
    • Develop and maintain a grant database to ensure accurate information about funders, giving history, areas of interest, and grant tracking/reporting;
    • Prepare grant reports, including assisting with collecting of data and documentation, for funders as required;
    • Work with ImmDef’s management team to identify gaps in funding and to strategically determine whether to apply for funds based on program and client need;
    • Hire, onboard, train and supervise staff within a growing department;
    • Assist with other Development projects as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Bachelors or masters degree preferred, will consider significant life or professional experience in lieu of education;
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of grants/development experience required, preferably including government contracts;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Excellent organization and attention to detail – including ability to prioritize/manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting strict deadlines, while also maintaining flexibility for the
    • unexpected;
    • Proficiency in data management and database systems;
    • Comfortable working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a rapidly growing organization;
    • Familiarity with legal procedures and language is desirable, but not required.

    Due to the nature of this position, ImmDef requires all candidates to provide an original writing sample as part of their application. Samples that relate directly and demonstrate proficiency with the key functions of this role, such as past successful proposals, are strongly preferred.
