    Description

    Overview:

    The SoHo Broadway Initiative is a small not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization that represents the neighborhood-focused business improvement district for SoHo’s Broadway from Houston to Canal (the “District”). The Initiative seeks to make SoHo Broadway a welcoming place to live, work, and visit.

    The Initiative is seeking to hire a Field Operations and Engagement Manager, who will be responsible for responding to quality-of-life issues in the District, working with neighborhood partners as well as government agencies to address these issues as they arise, and developing relationships with District constituents.

    Please note this role is intended to be: full time (35hrs/week); in person; Wednesday – Sunday schedule; and includes evening hours 2-3 times per month.

    Responsibilities:

    The Field Operations and Engagement Manager will spend the majority of their time in the field and be an easily identifiable member of the Initiative. They will report to the Executive Director and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Monitor and respond to sidewalk conditions including but not limited to illegal sidewalk usage, unsafe sidewalk/street conditions, compliance with City regulations (e.g. placement of sidewalk signage, garbage set-out rules, vending, noise, etc.) and other general quality-of-life conditions. Refer issues to 311 and other appropriate government agencies for attention and follow up as needed.
    • Establish and maintain close relationships with staff from City agencies and departments, including Sanitation, Police, Transportation, Environmental Protection, Citywide Event Coordination and Management, and other agencies.
    • Manage records and data related to field observations and engagement to identify trends and measure impact.
    • Act as main point of contact while developing and maintaining relationships with District constituents by conducting outreach to and communicating with members of the residential and business communities.
    • Identify, pursue, and refer potential opportunities for the organization to collaborate with businesses and/or residents.
    • Work closely with business and residential community members, local community groups, elected officials, government officials, and other neighborhood institutions as needed to achieve desired outcomes. Attend or participate in related meetings as necessary.
    • Oversee District cleaning, maintenance, and beautification services provided by contractors.
    • Such other duties as may arise from time-to-time that are reasonably related to the furtherance of the mission of the organization.

    Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of New York City government and the role of a business improvement district in addressing quality-of-life conditions.
    • Prior community and government relations, law and regulatory enforcement, security, public space management, constituent services, operations management, or similar experience is required.
    • Ability to perform as a strong member of a small, agile team. This includes attributes such as professionalism, flexibility, resiliency, organization, efficiency, and the ability to manage a workload with conflicting priorities.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse array of stakeholders in person, via telephone, and via text/email.
    • Strong organizational and written/oral communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, database management, and ability to learn new computer software programs.
    • Enthusiastic about working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    Compensation

    Annual salary plus benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, etc. Salary is commensurate with experience, in the range of $65,000 to $75,000 annual salary.
