    Description

    The SUNY Orange Executive Director candidate will build upon the strengths of the Foundation while leading it to its next chapter. This requires being a great communicator, working with a diverse range of constituents, creativity in developing fundraising strategies, being a thoughtful leader, and a true team player. Candidates should have experience driving revenue growth, setting goals and being results oriented, building strong relationships, and effective at working with small teams.

    OVERVIEW: The primary function of the Executive Director is to fundraise, direct and oversee all fundraising efforts and develop fundraising strategies to support the needs of SUNY Orange and its students, as well as the operating needs of the Foundation. This position also oversees all Foundation operations. and works closely with the foundation board and its committees.

    REPORT STRUCTURE: Reports directly to Foundation Board through Foundation Chair and the Executive Committee; works closely with College President through dotted line relationship.

    SUPERVISES: All Foundation staff members.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1. Interfaces with internal and external constituencies to acquire funding for the College and its students; develops and implements customized fundraising and relationship building strategies.
    2. Oversees all aspects of Scholarship Administration as it pertains to scholarship applications and awarding, collaborating with the College Scholarship Committee regarding scholarship selection.
    3. Facilitates Foundation Strategic Plan development and implementation.
    4. Oversees and approves the development and use of all Foundation-related written materials including solicitation letters, forms, brochures, and annual and outcome reports.
    5. Manages the Foundation's website and donor database system and its administration, upgrades and rules and ensures all information is up to date.
    6. Directs the Foundation's fund accounting, audit process, budget development, investment portfolio management as directed, pension administration and ensures timely filings of all pertinent documents/ reports.
    7. In collaboration with the Executive Committee, establishes, manages and assesses the goals and outcomes for the Foundation as outlined in its Strategic Plan.
    8. Serves as a member of the College President's Cabinet and senior administrative team and other administrative committees as assigned.
    9. Develops a set of core outcomes for Foundation and measures and tracks annual performance against objectives; prepares and submits assessment reports to the Foundation Board and College President.
    10. Acts as performance manager for all direct reports including managing day to day performance, producing and communicating written performance evaluations, approving requested time off and other points of compliance with HR rules and regulations.
    11. Subject to executive review and final board approval, has the responsibility, power and authority to hire, terminate, discipline and promote full and part-time employees.
    12. Coaches and develops staff to achieve Foundation goals and performs annual performance review for each direct report.
    13. Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Chair or other designated management.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Leadership:

    • Ensure highest ethical standards and fiduciary oversight of Foundation assets and donor intentions/request.
    • Implement the Strategic Plan for the Foundation and ensure stated milestones and deliverables are met.
    • Collaborate with College to ensure alignment of Foundation focus with College priorities and goals.
    • Provide professional leadership and direction to all key staff.
    • Engage and assist in recruiting Board Members and Foundation Volunteers and Alumni.

    Fundraising:

    • Manage and grow an efficient and effective development program through the establishment of annual and long-term fundraising goals.
    • Work with Board and Foundation staff to plan, direct, manage, expand, diversify and implement all fundraising and development activities to successfully achieve these goals.
    • Cultivate a portfolio of priority prospects and major gift donors.
    • Develop new donor relationships, maintain and grow current relationships, and create a future gift pipeline through the implementation of planned giving initiatives.
    • Manage and participate in any capital campaign programs.

    Marketing & Communication:

    • Establish the strategic marketing direction of the Foundation in order to engage the community in the mission of the Foundation and generate donor support.
    • Ensure the Foundation has adequate technologies to support its mission, objective and strategies.
    • Act as a representative of the Foundation to internal and external organizations and constituencies.
    • Utilize social media to promote Foundation programs and fundraising initiatives, as well as the College itself.

    Financial Administration:

    • Ensure appropriate financials controls are in place to prepare timely and accurate financial and investment reports and position Foundation for clean annual audit and 990 report.
    • Maintain excellent relationships with all financial partners, including financial institutions and investment advisors.
    • Assist in the preparation of the Foundation’s annual restricted and unrestricted budget.
    • Administer Foundation travel budget and other expenditures of staff.
    • Manage organizational credit card purchases as per Foundation policies.
    • Ensure accountability and achievement of revenue, expense, investment and budget targets. (put this under financial administration)
    • Ensure there is necessary liquidity on hand to satisfy annual scholarship disbursements.
    • Stay versed on investment management policies of the Foundation.

    Personnel Management:

    • Responsible for the hiring, supervising and annual evaluation of all Foundation Personnel.
    • Adhere to compensation and benefits budget.
    • Evaluate organizational chart annually for potential adjustments and succession considerations.

    Board of Directors:

    • Attend Board and Foundation committee meetings when appropriate and work in partnership with the Executive Committee toward the achievement of annual goals and objectives.
    • Maintain board attendance and engagement information for board member term renewals.
    • Ensure appropriate staffing and operations of Board committees.
    • Ensures proper scheduling, recording and dissemination of meeting minutes.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

    The following skills and experience are desirable:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in nonprofit management, education, public administration, or related field.
    • Master's degree preferred.
    • Raisers Edge experience preferred.
    • Significant years of senior-level not for profit management experience.
    • Proven record in comprehensive fundraising administration and resource development, financial management, strategic planning and capital campaign management.
    • Principles and practices of foundation development and administration related to planned giving, capital campaigns, annual campaigns, budgeting, public relations and marketing, contractual agreements, employee supervision and evaluation, and database management utilized by the Foundation.
    • Aptitude for delegating and fostering responsibility and accountability in others.
    • Experience working with volunteers, non-profits, and community-based organizations is desirable.
    • Exceptional initiative, vision, and ambition to lead a vibrant philanthropy program.
    • Superb organizational skills, flexibility, and detail-oriented with strong follow-through and ability to meet tight deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create effective and compelling donor materials.
    • Exceptional fundraising skills and ability to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
    • Must demonstrate integrity, honesty, and ethics in the performance of the duties of the Executive Director.
    • Must have basic proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Evening and weekend hours will be required as needed.
