    Description

The LCYC Community Sailing and Education Foundation is seeking a part-time Executive Director to oversee administration, personnel, programming, fundraising, and strategy for our summer youth sailing and maritime education program. LCYC-CSEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community organization teaching sailing and boating skills, marine environmental education, and island exploration to young and old on the Cranberry Isles in Maine. Our mission is to foster confidence, community, and love and respect for boats and coastal Maine.

The Executive Director is primarily responsible for planning, staffing, scheduling, and overseeing our seven-week summer program on Little Cranberry Island, Maine. Leading up to the season the ED will develop a schedule, organize registration, and hire staff. During the season, the ED manages all staff and the running of classes–leading daily planning meetings; communicating with parents and students; and establishing learning goals, operating and safety procedures, and weather guidelines. The ED is also responsible for maintaining and organizing equipment with the staff throughout the season and collaborating with other clubs and organizations for various events. The work requires a 40+ hour per week commitment during the seven-week program (expected to be July 1 to August 16 in 2024), as well as an opening prep week and subsequent closing week.

Off-season and throughout the year, the ED oversees elements of administration, budgeting, fundraising, grant-seeking, and off-season maintenance of the boat fleet, in addition to programming planning, such as curriculum and schedule development, leading up to the summer. The off-season work is flexible and in most cases requires 0-5 hours per week, but with room to grow.

Strong candidates will be great working with kids, have prior teaching or camp-counseling experience, and have good organizational and administrative skills. While strong boat and sailing skills is a plus, it is not required.

Salary begins at $20,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Candidates willing to make a long-term commitment should expect to see growth in responsibilities and salary. The ED should expect to reside on one of the Cranberry Isles or on Mount Desert Island during the summer program, and LCYC will aid in finding housing if needed.
