    Development Director

    The Record Co. - Boston, MA

    Position Overview

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will lead TRC's fundraising initiatives focusing on building sustainable revenue streams that support our mission of making music creation accessible to all. This role combines strategic fundraising leadership with hands-on donor engagement to strengthen Boston's music ecosystem. The position requires someone who can build authentic relationships across diverse communities while maintaining a deep commitment to equity and accessibility.

    Essential ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Revenue Development (35%)

    • Partner with the Executive Director to create and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy
    • Build and manage diverse revenue streams including individual giving, institutional support, and corporate partnerships
    • Design and implement TRC's first major gifts program
    • Create cultivation strategies for high-net-worth individuals and family foundations
    • Develop compelling cases for support that center accessibility and community impact
    • Build relationships within Boston's philanthropic and music communities
    • Lead the creation of a planned giving program
    • Oversee corporate sponsorship and partnership initiatives

    Development Operations & Impact (25%)

    • Lead grant strategy and institutional giving efforts
    • Oversee donor database management (DonorBox/Salesforce)
    • Create impact measurement and reporting frameworks
    • Implement data-driven fundraising strategies
    • Manage development budget and revenue forecasting
    • Supervise development team members
    • Ensure compliance with gift acceptance policies
    • Track and analyze fundraising metrics

    Donor & Community Engagement (25%)

    • Design strategic donor engagement events that reflect TRC's values
    • Create high-touch donor experiences that showcase community impact
    • Oversee donor recognition programs across giving levels
    • Build relationships with music industry partners
    • Partner with the Board of Directors on fundraising initiatives
    • Support board members in donor cultivation
    • Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization
    • Lead development committee meetings

    External Communications & Storytelling (15%)

    • Collaborate on crafting compelling donor communications
    • Ensure consistent mission-aligned messaging
    • Develop impact stories that center community voices
    • Create engaging content for donor outreach
    • Maintain regular donor touchpoints
    • Support public relations efforts
    • Implement multi-channel engagement strategies

    Required Qualifications

    • 5+ years of development experience with demonstrated fundraising success
    • Track record of securing major gifts and building donor relationships
    • Experience designing and implementing fundraising strategies
    • Strong grant writing and institutional giving background
    • Excellence in donor communications and stewardship
    • Data-driven approach to prospect identification
    • Proven ability to build programs from scratch
