    Description

    About AHMA

    Abundant Housing Massachusetts, Inc. (AHMA) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit housing advocacy organization formed in 2020. AHMA believes that Massachusetts is for everyone. Our mission is to stand up for abundant housing for all in communities across Massachusetts. We drive policy at the state and local level by identifying pro-housing changemakers, building the power of local organizers, and connecting a statewide network.

    AHMA’s vision for Massachusetts is to create, sustain, and enhance:

    • Abundant housing for all;
    • A housing market that lets people move when they want, where they want, not when they have to;
    • Communities with racially and economically diverse residents;
    • Development patterns that facilitate low/no-carbon lifestyles; and,
    • Education on effective organizing tools to overcome our history of racial segregation.

    The AHMA network encompasses hundreds of members statewide and over twenty affiliate organizations/coalition partners across the state who are advocates for housing in their own communities. To make AHMA’s vision a reality, AHMA builds the capacity of our network to enact pro-housing changes at the local level. AHMA’s work is empowered by a team of six, three active volunteer committees and a committed working board of directors.

    To learn more about our work, we encourage you to read our curated blog authored by staff and members of our network.

    Overview of Role

    The Director of Development will work collaboratively across all parts of the organization and develop relationships with board members, staff, individual donors, and community partners. The Director of Development is responsible for stewarding, identifying, and deepening relationships with individual donors; leading the planning of strategic fundraising events, and engaging staff, board members, and volunteers in the fundraising cycle and events. With a significant financial commitment to strengthen our organizational infrastructure, AHMA is seeking to onboard and integrate a Development Director to our growing team. We are seeking someone who not only has fundraising prowess, a passion for resourcing organizations to build, a commitment to building systems for the long-term, and terrific management skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet AHMA’s annual and longer-term revenue goals, in partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
    • Achieve our revenue growth goals by securing, managing, and stewarding support from individual donors, in partnership with the Executive Director.
    • Use donor research tools, data analysis and key performance indicators from programs to strengthen fundraising appeals and to identify, pitch, and close prospective donors.
    • Work with the Executive Director to prepare for solicitation meetings and maintain high touch relationships with philanthropic funders, individual donors, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Create scalable systems to ensure consistent cultivation, follow up, and reports for individual donors and philanthropies.
    • Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization, including AHMA’s signature annual Celebration of Abundance fundraiser.
    • Assist with grant writing to create clear, concise, and compelling narratives that drive fundraising outcomes.
    • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Operations, help restructure membership tiers to promote revenue growth among the org’s growing membership base.
    • Developing and coordinating effective reporting to investors/donors by working closely with ED and Board.
    • Maintaining our fundraising CRM to ensure that donor and financial data are secure, complete and accurate, and comply with regulatory requirements.

    Required Qualifications

    • A background developing individual giving programs at nonprofits or campaigns with a significant fund development experience, with a minimum of two years of experience in a fundraising role, including cultivating and soliciting donors to give $500k+ grants and/or individual major gifts of $2,500+
    • Demonstrated experience using a CRM to collect, track, and analyze the performance of fundraising campaigns.
    • A self-starter mentality, with experience building and executing a fundraising plan to reach revenue goals.
    • Excellent relationship-building skills with examples of cultivating authentic relationships with donors.
    • A clear approach for donor research to identify new prospects, diversify the donor base, and tailor pitches accordingly.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proven track-record of fundraising growth in at least two roles with increasing responsibility.
    • Experience using the EveryAction fundraising management CRM.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to create clear, concise, and compelling narratives that drive fundraising outcomes
    • Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to build trust across donors, departments, staff, and movements
    • Prior experience with legal compliance fundraising for a multi-entity organization (e.g. 501(c)(3)/501(c)(4))
    • Demonstrated success engaging in the fundraising/philanthropic community in Massachusetts.
