Senior Web & Graphic Designer

Define American is seeking a dynamic and multi-talented senior web and graphic designer who can balance creativity, strategy, and execution. This person will be responsible for supporting cross-organization initiatives to promote our brand and design our products.

We’re seeking a senior-level web and graphic designer with a strong balance of creativity, strategic thinking, and the ability to bring concepts to life. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, approaches challenges with innovation, and delivers impactful, polished designs on deadline.

What to expect

You’ll set the creative tone and vision of the organization. Your day-to-day will be managing a steady stream of exciting projects—from managing the creative direction of external designers and design firms on website redesigns and visual direction of groundbreaking research reports to creating social media graphics, pitch decks, and impactful event materials. Every day, your work will contribute to a movement that shifts hearts and minds.

• Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday; non-traditional hours may be required at times.

Responsibilities

Innovative Designer

Design, create and manage original, strategic, branded materials, such as:

• Graphics and layouts for our social media channels and website
• Digital communications, including email newsletters, infographics, data visualizations, and social media imagery
• Merchandise, in collaboration with freelance artists
• Digital and print ads, print programs, screen graphics, and step-and-repeats for events
• Presentations for internal and external audiences

Thought Leader and Partner

Provide insights and vision for future branding efforts both internally and to our consultants, collaborators, and partners.

• Maintain and evolve Define American’s visual identity
• Oversee consistent, cutting-edge branding for the web and social media
• Provide design advice for other departments at Define American
• Iterate on feedback quickly and thoughtfully

Organized Project Manager

Streamline processes and ensure smooth execution of design projects.

• Oversee external design teams for special projects like website redesign or report design.
• Develop clear and timely feedback loops for both internal and external design projects.
• Ensure consistent use of fonts, colors, styles, and general look/feel across all materials

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Expertise in web design, graphic design, and photo/video editing software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite
• Strong understanding of current visual trends in online marketing strategies and best practices
• Knowledge of best practices for web design
• Content management experience, particularly with Wordpress; CRM experience a plus
• Basic HTML/CSS coding knowledge a plus
• A dynamic portfolio showcasing skills across a variety of mediums
• 5-7+ years of progressively gaining responsibilities in a graphic design role, specifically geared toward digital engagement
• Track record of effective collaboration with diverse internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to create high-level visioning for creative assets as well as manage the day-to-day execution
• Demonstrated project management skills with acute attention to detail and the ability to self-direct
• Ability to work independently and make decisions confidently within their scope of expertise
• Adept at managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, approaching challenges with a confident and solution-oriented mindset
• Effective communicator
• Enthusiastic about Define American’s mission and vision
• Lived experience of immigration a plus
