    Description

    The Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) is seeking a full time Senior Executive and Director of Membership to oversee all activities related to the membership functions of the association.

    Reporting directly to the Executive Director & CEO, this is a senior management position in charge of membership operations for the statewide nonprofit organization that provides essential advocacy, membership, and entrepreneurial services to all of the cities and towns in Massachusetts.

    About MMA: The nonpartisan Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) provides an array of services to its member cities and towns statewide, including advocacy, education and training, research and analysis, and publications and information programs. As the voice of local government in Massachusetts, the MMA works to advance the interests of all cities and towns.

    About the position: The Director of Membership manages the MMA’s membership services and functions, including: affiliate group management and programming, education and training initiatives, and cross member webinars for Mayors, Managers, Select Board Members, Councillors, Finance Committee Members, Personnel and HR Administrators, Women Elected Municipal Officials, and Women Leading Government; key leadership of all member meetings and workshops, and the association’s 3-day annual conference. The Director of Membership works closely with the Executive Director on management issues across the organization, and coordinates special projects and initiatives. The Director of Membership is a member of the MMA’s Senior Management Team, and oversees a talented 4-person staff.

    Qualifications: This successful candidate should have at least 8-10 years of directly relevant experience in a governmental or nonprofit setting, including significant supervisory experience, and an impressive background of progressively more responsible leadership in a similarly complex organizational setting. You should have the ability to successfully plan, implement, and manage multiple complex activities using strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Thorough understanding of municipal government policy and experience working with municipal government officials is strongly preferred, as is experience dealing with member relations, and training and education programs. A Master’s degree in non-profit management or public administration/policy is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required, as the position involves frequent in-state travel.
