    ATASK is the only multilingual and multicultural domestic violence organization in Massachusetts dedicated to serving the Asian and Pacific Islander community. Our culturally specific services, offered in over 20 Asian languages, include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, case management and advocacy, legal consultation and representation, and English classes.

    About the Position: ATASK is in search of a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Housing team as a full-time Shelter Advocate. The position is based out of our Emergency Shelter in Boston, serving clients throughout Massachusetts and occasionally bordering states to provide needed services to victims, survivors, and their children.

    ATASK’s mission is to empower Asian survivors of domestic violence and abuse to rebuild their lives. Our work bridges language and cultural gaps for Asian communities and advocates for social change. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for victims, survivors and their children and will work as a team member of ATASK to provide comprehensive services to the Asian and general community.

    Hours: Typically, weekdays (M- F) of various shifts: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. with possible after hours and weekend work.

    Reports to: Manager of Residential Services

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Shelter Advocate is responsible for assisting in the management of daily operations at the shelter and providing comprehensive services to shelter clients in collaboration with CBS Advocates, other ATASK staff, and external providers.

    Direct Service Responsibilities

      • Provide culturally competent, trauma informed case management/advocacy services to victims of domestic violence, including safety planning and crisis intervention
      • Conduct shelter intake, assessment, and goal planning with clients
      • Facilitate wraparound meetings with shelter clients and collateral contacts
      • Accompany shelter clients (and their children) to court, legal appointments, health care, public benefits, and community agencies to assist in achieving short and long-term stabilization goals
      • Make referrals, network, advocate with other agencies, and seek out funds needed to assist client’s safety and stabilization goals.
      • Support shelter clients in achieving Individual Service Plan goals as prepared by the client's Advocate; coordinate with and report to the advocate on all client matters
      • Answer hotline calls: assess caller’s needs; provide supportive listening, crisis intervention, safety planning, and information about domestic violence and resources; and make inter-agency and external referrals
      • Assist in the management of daily operation at the shelter, including assisting in overseeing the maintenance of the physical plant of the shelter
    • Collaborate with LAP Navigators, the Legal team, and other ATASK staff as needed to support client goals
    • Follow and enforce all house policies and procedures
      • Assist with childcare needs for clients when appropriate

    Administrative Responsibilities:

      • Maintain current and accurate records of services and regularly check and update client database
      • Provide data for periodic grant reports
      • Attend staff meetings, supervision, case meetings, and trainings
      • Participate in the Silk Road Gala and other cultural and fundraising events
      • Represent agency at meetings with community collaborators and other community events
      • Engage in community outreach and engagement, research collaborations and policy advocacy
      • Maintain internal and external safety of the house
      • Effectively interface with emergency and crisis intervention personnel
      • Assist in training and supervising interns
      • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

      • Two years’ experience working with domestic violence and/or sexual assault survivors (i.e. based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, gender identity, class, education, immigration status, etc.) highly desired
      • Experience and/ or knowledge of communal living and homelessness issues preferred
      • Knowledge of health care, legal, education, workforce development, mental health, and child systems preferred
      • Bachelor’s degree; social work or related human services field preferred (not required)
      • Bilingual English and Asian language speaking preferred
      • Experience providing services to Limited English Proficiency individuals from diverse backgrounds required
      • Must have appropriate boundaries and understanding of and commitment to maintaining strict client confidentiality.
      • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong documentation and communication skills
      • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
      • Be able to work independently and part of a team
      • Committed to completing ATASK DV training
      • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle or reliable transportation, and willingness to travel occasionally preferred
      • Committed to ATASK’s mission and goals, and to ending a culture of domestic violence

    Salary is commensurate with education and experience. ATASK is not able to provide visa sponsorship at this time and therefore applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
