    Job Summary:

    The Accounting/Payroll Specialist will perform as a key member of the Finance Team, instrumental in supporting the fiscal responsibilities of the organization. The Accounting/Payroll Specialist ensures that financial records are maintained accurately and consistently with accounting standards for non-profit agencies. This position requires organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to effectively communicate with all departments.

    Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll via online payroll application, following protocols to ensure confidentiality.
    • Oversee and execute the accounts payable function and maintain a high level of ethics, integrity and diplomacy.
    • Record incoming cash and credit card transactions.
    • Support Controller and CFO in month-end closing processes.
    • Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
    • Maintain reconciliations for general ledger accounts and complete journal entries.
    • Support Controller in year-end closing processes and preparation for annual audit.
    • Maintain the proper internal controls.
    • Maintain the accounting/payroll processes and procedures manual to ensure the department has a documented account of tasks and responsibilities.
    • Special projects as requested and/or other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

    • Associate degree with a financial emphasis required. 4-year degree a plus.
    • A minimum of 3 years related recent experience.
    • Thorough understanding of bookkeeping practices and procedures.
    • Knowledge of accounting software required; experience with QuickBooks preferred.
    • Knowledge of payroll systems required; experience with ADP or similar systems preferred.
    • Knowledge of automated accounts payable system preferred; experience with SAP Concur a plus.
    • Proficiency with MS Office products.
    • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects in an efficient manner and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Capacity to maintain information in a confidential manner.
    • Ability to be a positive, professional Milwaukee Habitat representative both internally and externally.
    • Skilled at analyzing and interpreting data.
    • Strong communication skills to work across departments and with various levels of management.
    • Demonstrated success working as part of a team and independently.
    • Knowledge of the non-profit sector a plus.
    • Commitment to affordable housing and passionate about the mission of Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity.
    • Experience working with volunteers a plus.
