    Position Description

    Juma Ventures (Juma), an award-winning youth workforce development nonprofit organization, seeks a Development Coordinator to provide administrative leadership and support to its National Development Team.

    The Development Coordinator will, individually and in partnership with team members, ensure the effective operations of the National Development Team and support a wide array of fund development efforts, including Juma’s Institutional, Individual & Event strategies and Marketing & Communications efforts. The Development Coordinator will also provide administrative support to Executive Team members and Senior Department leaders.

    The Development Coordinator role is designed to be an introduction to non-profit fund development. The role is an excellent opportunity for a candidate seeking to explore and build a career in nonprofit administration, management and operations, strategic planning, and marketing and communications. The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively while demonstrating creativity, resourcefulness, flexibility, professionalism, and outstanding organization and communication skills.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Individual Giving & Event Strategies (25% of the time)

    • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Individual Giving, support various activities associated with Juma’s Individual Giving & Event Strategies. This includes:
      • Recording and tracking donations received
      • Drafting and issuing donation tax acknowledgment letters
      • Leading the department’s donor Thank You Process
      • Maintaining updated donor profiles, including conducting donor research
      • Creating and pulling accurate donor reports from Juma’s Development database
      • Supporting event activities such as venue walk-throughs, set-up, and load-in/load-out
      • Managing and tracking event guest lists and financials
      • Communicating with donors in a professional and timely manner
      • Being a positive ambassador for Juma’s mission and impact

    Marketing & Communications Efforts (25% of the time)

    • In partnership with the Executive Director of Corporate Partnerships and Marketing and the Director of Individual Giving, support the drafting and editing of department communications such as the end-of-the-year campaign and event collateral, including invitations and the printed program. This includes:
      • Copy editing for grammar, spelling, and punctuation
      • Revising and fact-checking content
      • Making layout and stylistic suggestions and edits in line with Juma’s style and branding guidelines
      • Writing content for the Juma Quarterly Newsletter, such as event coverage and youth impact stories
    • Writing content for Social Media posts
    • Maintaining Juma.org up to date

    Executive and Leadership Team Support and Coordination (20% of the time)

    • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, the Executive Director of Corporate Partnerships and Marketing, and Directors of Individual and Institutional Giving, lead various administrative tasks supporting these leaders' fund development work. This includes:
      • Scheduling funder meetings and supporting calendar coordination
      • Creating funder meeting collateral, packets, and decks
      • Preparing for monthly department meetings
      • Organizing team socials and community-building activities
      • Arranging and coordinating fund development-related travel
      • Coordinating credit card expenses and ongoing financial reporting

    National Board Engagement Strategy (15% of the time)

    • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, the Executive Director of Corporate Partnerships and Marketing, and the Director of Individual Giving, lead the planning, coordination, and preparation of National Board Committee Meetings. This includes:
      • Supporting committee communications efforts
      • Coordinating update calls with committee members
      • Creating an impactful meeting agenda and presentation deck
      • Setting up and coordinating meeting needs, including technology and venue/location

    General Administration (15% of the time)

    • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, Development Operations Manager, and Finance Team, support a wide array of tasks to ensure the effective and successful operations of the department. This includes:
      • Overseeing the Development Team Drive and ongoing subscriptions and memberships
      • Opening and scanning mail
      • Maintaining inventory and ordering supplies as needed

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience (0 to 3 years) with or a strong desire to work in the nonprofit field is preferred
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while demonstrating creativity, resourcefulness, flexibility, and professionalism
    • Outstanding organization and written and verbal communication skills
    • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and established deadlines
    • Proficiency in Salesforce (or other CRM Systems such as Raiser’s Edge) is a plus but not required
    • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
    • Self-starter, motivated, and able to take initiative in all situations; ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and inclusive environment.

    • Demonstrated knowledge and respect for youth development principles and youth leadership and culture

    Job Details

    Reports to: Chief Development Officer

    Job Location: San Francisco, California

    Salary: $60,000-$65,000

    Classification: Full-time, non-exempt, with some nights and weekends per business needs

    Hours/Week: 40 hours

    Hybrid Work Environment: Juma maintains a hybrid work environment. Currently, the Development Coordinator will be expected to work out of the organization’s San Francisco office two days per week. Additionally, the Development Coordinator must occasionally travel throughout the Bay Area to attend meetings per business needs.

    Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
