The Dexter Senior Center, a growing membership-based organization dedicated to advancing wellness, connection, and enrichment for older adults, is seeking an inspiring leader and experienced administrative professional to become its next Executive Director. This is a full-time position and is located in Dexter, Michigan.
The Executive Director shall lead through the center’s vision and values while overseeing all day-to-day operations of the center. This includes leading staff and board member relations, center programming and communications, member well-being, quality assurance, financial management, regulatory compliance, and all other aspects of center operations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide visionary leadership to staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Design, implement, and evaluate innovative programs that meet the diverse needs of older adults, promoting social, physical, and mental well-being.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and local organizations to enhance program offerings and increase participation. Serve as the face of the center and proactively promoting its mission, values, and services at public events throughout the area.
- Formulate and execute comprehensive and consistent marketing, public relations, and development strategies to build awareness and drive support from major donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporations.
- Administer a grant resource development plan to include seeking, research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
- Oversee budget preparation and management, ensuring sustainability and responsible use of resources. Develop diverse funding streams and long-term plans to best support the mission and goals of the organization.
- Recruit, train, and mentor staff and volunteers, promoting professional development and ensuring a high level of service.
- Advocate for older adults needs and issues within the community and collaborate with local government and organizations to improve services.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote programs and increase community awareness of the Senior Center.
- Work with the Board President and leadership team to develop monthly agendas and annual strategic working sessions.
- Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Trustees; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for the national rollout.
- Explore and command expansion strategies and complete the strategic business planning process for extension into new markets.
- Be an external local, regional, and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Gerontology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in adult living/care environments, older adult services, nonprofit management, or related fields.
- Proven track record in program development and community engagement.
- Past success working with a Board of Trustees with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
- Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting and resource management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse population.
