Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District
Executive Director Job Posting
Position Title: Executive Director
Reporting To: Board of Directors
Brief Description of Ridgewood and Myrtle Avenue:
Once an area of farmland and parks, Ridgewood underwent a dramatic change in the early 1900’s when immigrants from Europe flocked to New York and its neighborhoods. Originally Germanic, Ridgewood today is an ethnically diverse community. From 1905-1915 much of Ridgewood’s housing stock was built. Much of Myrtle Avenue as it appears today was already built between 1915 and 1920. Ridgewood was totally developed by 1929.
Over 300 retail and service establishments occupy the ground floors mainly of three story brick buildings with retail/service, residential or storage units above. The Myrtle Avenue BID retail shopping and business district is surrounded by one of the largest Federal and State Historic Districts in the United States. Tree lined streets shelter well-maintained brick row homes, many with bay windows and brownstone steps. Many buildings retain their original architectural features representing Romanesque, Renaissance Revival styles. Myrtle Avenue itself was recently designated as a Federal and State district. A small part of the Myrtle Avenue BID is New York City Landmarked along with other areas of Ridgewood.
The Myrtle Avenue BID began program services in July 1988. The BID provides supplemental services and programs for an enhanced shopping environment on Myrtle Avenue and adjacent side streets from Fresh Pond Road to Wyckoff Avenue in Ridgewood. Today the BID provides a variety of services, including daily sidewalk and curbside sweeping, graffiti cleaning, horticultural services, streetscape improvements, special events, plaza programming, annual street fairs and ongoing marketing, promotion programs. The BID is also in the early stages of exploring the feasibility of expanding the present BID boundaries. The Board also voted to increase its assessment for FY26.
