    About SACRED

Based in Chicago, SACRED is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent organization working to overcome hate in the South Asian American community. SACRED unites progressive members of the South Asian American community to dismantle the enduring alliance between white supremacist and South Asian supremacist actors that advance authoritarianism and the myth of racial and caste superiority in the U.S.

    Position announcement

SACRED (South Asian American Coalition to Renew Democracy) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Strategic Communications and Public Relations Consultant.

This position will work closely with SACRED’s Executive Director and board members to develop and execute strategic communications plans including in-person events, social media campaigns, and email campaigns. This role requires a highly detail-oriented and data-driven individual who can operate within a quick-paced environment. SACRED’s ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio of experience including design work (e.g., Canva, Adobe), managing communications around in-person events, developing and implementing social media campaigns (including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X), developing and implementing email campaign (e.g., Mailchimp) while staying up to date with new and emerging social media platforms and trends.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

    • Support Executive Director, Board Members, and/or other team members in developing and executing strategic communications and public relations strategies, including in-person events.
    • Design and produce social media content (including video) under the direction of Executive Director and Board.
    • Oversee and manage – in coordination with Executive Director, Board Members, and/or other team members – day-to-day execution of social media and email campaigns, delivering campaigns on time and on target.
    • Track and report on key campaign, media, and outreach metrics on a weekly and/or monthly basis. Collaborate with team to evaluate and analyze the results of each campaign, program, and initiative and follow up making improvements.
    • Undertake other design work for SACRED, including policy brief and report design.
    • Research and identify other public relations, social media and communications opportunities that would lead to growth and attendance at SACRED events and programs.

    Required qualifications and skills:

    • Previous experience creating and establishing branding for a social sector organization.
    • One or more years of paid work experience managing social media for a social sector organization (including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X).
    • Efficient, organized, and detail oriented.
    • Ability to work independently and on multiple campaigns, including at times a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
    • Commitment to developing a collaborative work environment, constructive workplace culture, and team-centered approach.
    • Mission and value alignment with SACRED’s work.
    • Ability to engage constructively in discussions about organizational goals, performance, metrics, and deadlines.

    Preferred qualifications and skills:

    • Experience leveraging data from a variety of sources to help uncover new strategies, inform your decisions and communicate results.
    • Experience working on website development and maintenance.
    • Experience and knowledge of the social sector and how to engage donors and constituents.

    Location and other details:

A strong preference for candidates that live in Chicago, Illinois or the Chicagoland area. While much of the work will take place remotely, team meetings will take place weekly or biweekly in SACRED’s Chicago, West Loop office during weekday, working hours. The individual hired will likely be asked to attend in-person events on behalf of SACRED from time-to-time in and around the Chicagoland area, though SACRED is willing to be flexible for the right candidate.
