    The New York Energy Consumers Council (NYECC) remains the largest energy consumer advocacy organization in New York State, focusing on the goal of ensuring reliable and affordable energy for consumers. We provide a strong platform for valuable conversations among building owners and all members and are very active in advocacy work.

    Our membership is a balanced network of leading professionals from sectors that include large commercial and residential property owners and managers, hospitals, universities, financial institutions, consultants, technology and software providers and energy service companies. Our rate case advocacy on behalf of members has led to the avoidance of over $6 billion in electric, steam and gas costs for consumers in the last decade.

    Purpose:

    The purposes of the New York Energy Consumers Council (“NYECC”) include its continuing representation of the interests of an ever-expanding spectrum of major energy users in New York City and Westchester County, to realize a sustainable, environmentally responsible, and equitable energy future for the region that provides for safe and reliable generation, transmission, and delivery of energy at the lowest possible price for our members. NYECC advocates for its members in regulatory, legislative, executive, and judicial arenas, including, but not limited to, proceedings before the New York State Public Service Commission, the New York Independent System Operator, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and/or such other entities as may be appropriate to advance members’ interests. NYECC’s members also benefit from up-to-date information on the evolving energy marketplace and timely communication of critical energy issues.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The Executive Director is a part-time role (approximately 10-15 hours per week) that is responsible for the overall leadership, industry presence, strategic direction and growth of the organization. This involves collaborating with the Board of Directors and membership to set priorities and guide the organization toward achieving its mission and objectives. The Executive Director must be highly organized and capable of delegating responsibility by empowering other members to assume tasks as needed.

    External Engagement:

    • Lead Stakeholder Meetings
    • Lead Outreach to Organizations/Partnerships
    • Lead the NYECC REBNY Relationship
    • Conduct quarterly meetings with Utilities (Con Ed/National Grid)
    • Lead outreach to Legislators/Develop relationships
    • Conduct quarterly meetings with Regulatory Relationships (NYISO/FERC/PSC/NYSERDA/NYCDOB)

    Organizational Management:

    • Lead the management of NYECC Organization
    • Attend Member Meetings and oversee quarterly Board Meetings
    • Annual Budget/Financial Management including reviewing monthly expenses.
    • Oversee dues collection and sponsorship sales for events
    • Manage and Oversee Committees (Membership, Education, Regulatory, Comms & Outreach)
    • Manage and Oversee Annual Awards Event
    • Define monthly Website Management tasks
    • Direct Social Media Management
    • General Responsibilities including working with Directors and Officers, authorizing monthly expenses and other responsibilities as needed

    Membership:

    • Manage Membership & Communication
    • Respond to member requests for assistance
    • Direct outreach to New Members
    • Manage monthly regulatory update to membership through defining topicsRate Cases, Policy & Programming:
    • Determine Special Projects/Studies
    • Support the legal team in the management of Rate Cases including member involvement and supporting interrogatory development and responses
    • Lead the coordination of Policy Feedback/Legislation
    • Lead the development and organization of Special Events (Annual meetings, happy hours, Education)
    • Determine member involvement, impact and/or distribution of comments/input/testimony for various Regulatory Proceeding Updates (PSC or other state/federal agencies)

    Competencies:

    We are looking for a leader with knowledge of and experience with utility, public service and/or legislative policy who is comfortable working in and supporting the growth of a small organization. The ED works with the Board, external parties and various members to develop strategies, identify opportunities for involvement and coordinates the organizations position regarding energy and utility policy in NYS/NYC. The ED should be comfortable working across many groups and have

    strong organizational skills as well as knowledge of NYS’s CLCPA and NYC’s sustainability laws including the CMA (LL97).

    Education and Experience:

    • 10 years of experience in NYS or NYC working on energy and/or policy issues
    • Experience managing teams and budgets
    • Comfortable with presentations and external facing role
    • Leadership experience in non-profits or industry associations preferred.
    • Contract negotiation experience a plus

    Compensation:

    • Hourly rate to be determined based upon experience
