    Description

    The Director of Development will join Rise’s Leadership team to lead development efforts, including major gifts, foundation grants, individual donations, and corporate sponsorships. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Board of Directors to secure the funds necessary to support the organization’s mission, programs, services, and activities. The Director of Development will manage a part-time Development Coordinator. This is a 100% remote position with candidates living on East Coast highly preferred for donor and event travel to NYC and Baltimore, MD. There will be domestic travel required each year to succeed in this role, and a limited amount of international travel to pursue donor opportunities or to accompany major donors on service-learning trips, for example.

    Responsibilities:

    Leadership & Strategy

    • Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan to meet both unrestricted and restricted revenue goals.
    • Coordinate fundraising efforts across the organization, including with the Board of Directors and country/program teams.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and Marketing Coordinator to determine and evaluate organization’s donor communications, brand awareness activities and overall brand voice.
    • Represent the organization externally as both the Director of Development and as a member of the Leadership Team.
    • Play an active role in following philanthropic trends and identify new opportunities for the organization and its leadership to become more visible and increase its thought leadership activities.

    Fundraising & Stewardship

    • Lead the preparation of grant and other funding proposals and packages, playing a key role in subsequent relationship stewardship and management.
    • Develop donor pitches and protocols to support a comprehensive and multifaceted donor outreach effort.
    • Maintain situational awareness of new funding prospects, based on evolving and emerging programing initiatives.
    • Identify and implement approaches and tools to foster and maintain relationships with both foundations and individual donors, with the goals of enhancing new revenue streams.
    • Plan and execute targeted cultivation and stewardship activities in support of the Executive Director, Board Chairs, and Board Directors.
    • Regularly attend meetings and events to develop existing and new fundraising leads, in close coordination with the Executive Director.

    Development Management and Reporting

    • Oversee and coordinate day-to-day fundraising efforts ensuring effective tracking and revenue reporting.
    • Develop, measure, and track annual revenue and performance vs. goals.
    • Provide regular status reports, revenue projections and lead monthly and annual revenue reconciliation processes.
    • Prepare development presentations with monthly and quarterly revenue data at all board meetings.
    • Lead the Board Development Committee in conjunction with Board Committee Chair.
    • Oversee the use of data systems in the recording of contributions and prospects and create and generate regular internal reports to executive management.
    • Evaluate and improve current CRM/Moves Management process.
    • Create, as necessary, and update fundraising policies and procedures.

    Event Management

    • Responsible for planning and executing annual fundraising Gala in conjunction with the Development Coordinator (planned for October 16, 2025, and again in 2027.)
    • Assist with planning and execution of salon events and other friendraising and fundraising events.

    Candidate Experience:

    • Candidates must live in Northeast US States including (New York, CT, MD, DC, NJ, Philadelphia)
    • BA/BS required. Masters is kindly looked upon but not required.
    • Fundraising Expertise: 7+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of securing five and six-figure gifts from individuals and foundations.
    • Can work independently while collaborating with remote team members and across cultures.
    • Designed and managed events and campaigns from idea generation to production.
    • Experience in board relations management.
    • Experience in leading results-driven communications with a view to audience expansion.
    • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing grant proposals, donor pitches, and reports.
    • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with CRM systems for managing donor relationships and tracking progress.
    • Strong attention to detail and keen ability to multi-task.
    • Graphic design skills are an advantage.
    • Marketing/communications experience is also an advantage.
