    Description

Digital Skills Instructor (Independent Contractor), In person, in Fresno County

Short-term projects (minimum five weeks) and based on scope of work

    About Everyone On

Everyone On envisions a more just and prosperous future for all by ensuring every person can harness the transformative power of the internet. No longer a luxury, the internet is the fundamental building block of our digital economy; and yet over 18M households, disproportionately from low-income communities of color, have been priced out and cut off from the most important communications platform and economic engine of our time. Everyone On is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to fostering social & economic opportunity by connecting people to affordable internet service and computers and providing digital skills training.

Everyone On works primarily in under-resourced communities of color, particularly Black/African-American, Tribal, and Latino/x communities. We are seeking candidates with lived experience, and those who are culturally competent with the communities we serve.

Since 2012, Everyone On has connected more than one million students, adults, seniors, and veterans from across 48 states and provided them with improved access to best-in-class educational and digital literacy resources, job readiness training, and critical financial and governmental services. Our model drives meaningful broadband adoption and digital readiness among unconnected populations with unprecedented scale by leveraging cross-sector partnerships with the nation’s leading internet service providers (ISPs), community-based nonprofits, and public-sector agencies, including the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (HUD), and the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).

Currently, Everyone On serves the majority of our income-insecure beneficiaries through key program verticals: our best-in-class broadband adoption platform, our digital literacy trainings, and capacity building trainings for diverse organizations.

    About the Role

Everyone On is conducting an ongoing national search for Digital Skills Instructors to deliver our digital skills programming. Instructors will teach income-insecure adults (ages 18+), with limited to no prior computer training, to effectively use a computer and complete basic digital tasks. Instruction may be delivered virtually or in-person. Instructional topics are novice to introductory level and will center around applied digital literacy and skills (i.e. document creation, digital communication, platform use), maintaining online privacy and safety, and will introduce participants to various digital resources. Our programs require multiple instructors and we anticipate a high volume of work with Everyone On and other partners across the country for the foreseeable future. Classes will be held in-person at a site in Fresno County.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver synchronous digital skills training classes to under-resourced participants aged 18+
    • Provide asynchronous learning support to participants via office hours
    • Participate in all mandatory project meetings, including onboarding workshops, weekly check-ins, partner gatherings and project closeout meetings with Everyone On staff
    • Develop innovative incentive strategies that coupled with traditional reminder phone calls and text will motivate participants to attend classes consistently
    • Foster a class environment that encourages participants to continue digital skills learning through additional training programs and opportunities
    • Administer online needs assessments and pre and post training surveys to participants and assist Everyone On staff with data analysis
    • Evaluate training program effectiveness, including lessons learned, for continued expansion of digital inclusion programs
    • Verify that training participants have signed media consent/release form on file
    • Support collection of participant testimonials about program delivery and impact
    • Capture media including screenshots and/or recordings of synchronous class to support organizational and project communications strategy

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Associate’s degree or two plus years experience teaching adult learners
    • Must have a reliable computer with a webcam and a strong internet connection
    • Must be based in Fresno County
    • Flexible availability for synchronous lessons Monday - Saturday
    • Working knowledge of computing devices including personal computer (PC) brands, Chromebooks, tablets and their operating systems
    • Able to provide basic technology troubleshooting remotely when necessary
    • Advanced proficiency with office productivity tools such as Google Suite and Microsoft Office
    • Experience with asynchronous and synchronous teaching via online meeting platforms including Google Meet and Zoom
    • Screencasting and video editing experience a plus
    • Prior knowledge of instructional design principles a plus
    • Work well with new adult learners who have likely never used a computer
    • Independent self-starter with a kind, approachable and patient disposition
    • Very strong team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Able to manage concurrent tasks across multiple competing project priorities
    • An honest, insightful collaborator who can think strategically, drive analysis and solve problems quickly and effectively
    • Awareness of digital equity as a social justice issue
    • Experience working with low-income populations and communities of color
    • Priority will be given to candidates who are fluent in English and Spanish
