    Description

    Children's Arts & Science Workshops is hiring for a COMPASS Program Director for our program at PS18 in New York City (3761 10th Avenue).

    COMPASS Program Director

    Purpose Statement

    The Compass Program Director assists in creating an inviting, stimulating, and safe learning environment. A strong relationship between the Director and the Administrative team is vital to the success of the program. CASW staff work together to share ideas and to develop joint projects and activities. The Director is responsible for managing the daily logistics of the program, including supervising, maintaining, and overseeing the facilities, supplies, and equipment to ensure the safe and coordinated operations of the after school/summer camp classes and workshops. The Director is the most senior point of contact.

    Hours: 11AM – 6:30PM

    Salary Range: $50,000 – $70,000 commensurate with experience

    Education Requirement: Bachelors required, childcare experience and SACC hours/accreditation is a plus.

    Essential Function

    • Report to the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Operations Director of the Agency.
    • Comply with the policies and regulations of this organization.
    • Comply with the regulations and guidelines of your contract as described by the funder and the organization.
    • Attend meetings required by the funder and the organization.
    • Follow the guidelines for the program budget as described by the organization.
    • Responsible for the program’s safety compliance with the New York State and New York City Department of Health regulations.
    • Be available by cell phone between the hours of 11am – 6:30pm.
    • Communicate with stakeholder (Guardians, School Administration and Staff, CASW Colleagues_ in a timely manner (Within 24 hours) via agency email or work phone.
    • Provide Quality Programming for participants registered in the program.
    • Responsible for the scheduling and execution of the Program Contract according to the guidelines of the agency.
    • Responsible for maintaining a safe program environment for participants.
    • Responsible for Program Registration the collection and confidentiality of enrollment documents.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of agency information and the information of participants and their families.
    • Ensures that program related incidents are properly documented and reported and provides follow-up of incidents as necessary.
    • Assures that program staff (including volunteers) are linguistically and culturally competent and ensures that the services are provided to participants in a manner that is sensitive to their cultural heritage and traditions, life experiences, sexual orientation and gender identity.
    • Oversee the planning and implementation of program events.
    • Obtain resources to support the goals of the program.
    • Keep track of program outcomes.
    • Supervise the program staff within your assigned contract.
    • Interview and hire staff to run your assigned contract.
    • Evaluate the program staff within your assigned contract.
    • Provide Lesson Plans for all Staff that need additional Support/Assistance
    • Evaluate the work and documentation submitted by program staff for programming.
    • Make decisions concerning the employment and corrective action for your program staff.
    • Arrange and schedule training for program staff.
    • Oversee the staff sign-in sheets and complete timesheets for program staff.
    • Submit sign-in sheets, timesheets, and administrative paperwork to the main office.
    • Attend Program Trainings and Meetings: 30 hours of training annually or as designated by the agency, funder or local jurisdiction.

    Job Requirements: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    SKILLS: required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: child development, staff development, leadership development

    KNOWLEDGE: required to have the ability to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment, using pertinent software applications; maintaining program services document required information, strong organizational, verbal, written and interpersonal skills, and Bachelors Degree in Childhood Education or other related fields is mandatory.

    ABILITY: required to have the ability to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communication skills, working as part of a team; assisting students; and maintaining confidentiality.

    Responsibility

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 30% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
