    Description

    Job Posting: MI Phonebanker

One Fair Wage is an organization seeking to raise wages, enhance working conditions in the service sector and end all subminimum wages in the United States.

With the Great Resignation, millions of workers are refusing to work for subminimum wages, employers are raising wages to recruit staff, and the political landscape to advance policy to raise wages has changed dramatically. Given the historic moment, One Fair Wage has launched an ambitious campaign to advance bills and ballot measures in 25 states nationwide to raise wages and end subminimum wages in the US - and through the process, engage millions of unlikely, low-wage worker voters politically. One Fair Wage is thus advancing policy, workplace justice campaigns, voter engagement, employer engagement, and culture shift activities to ultimately lift millions of tipped workers out of poverty nationwide and engage them in the political process that governs their lives.

    Program Overview

Our organizing program will reach thousands of community members in Michigan by January 20. This statewide program will

    • Initiate conversations with thousands of people
    • Inform Michigan voters about the fight to protect our minimum wage increase
    • Engage state representatives directly about their constituents’ needs

One Fair Wage is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as Phone Banking Organizers in Detroit, Michigan. This role involves reaching out to community members via phone to provide information about wage inequality, gathering feedback, and encouraging voter participation supporting this campaign. Successful candidates will be personable, organized, and passionate about engaging with people to drive meaningful impact. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have experience in the service industry, as a tipped worker, or in other low-wage work, or are fluent in a second language, including Spanish.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Make outbound calls to Michigan community members
    • Accurately record call outcomes, feedback, and relevant data in our system.
    • Respond to community members’ questions and provide accurate information about One Fair Wage’s mission.
    • Collect critical feedback on communication materials from participants and deliver that feedback to your manager in order to improve materials
    • Implement campaign-wide feedback mechanisms for participants to communicate their experience to campaign leadership
    • Collect samples, anecdotes, video, photos and survey data at appropriate intervals to showcase program success for future recruitment and program reporting
    • Deliver the appropriate mix of automated, hand-generated and person-to-person communications within your work hours
    • Follow call scripts while balancing authentic conversation to foster genuine connections.
    • Hit daily phone bank benchmarks set by program leaders
    • Maintain professionalism at all times.

    Qualifications:

    • Fluency in English.
    • Strong communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation.
    • Comfortable speaking with a diverse range of people over the phone.
    • Basic computer skills and familiarity with data entry.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Previous experience in phone banking, telemarketing, or customer service is a plus but not required.

    Work Environment and Benefits:

    • Flexible scheduling.
    • Opportunities for skill development and training.
    • A supportive and inclusive work environment.
    • Competitive hourly wage of $25/hr.

This is a temporary position available immediately and lasting through January 20.
