    Description

    Summary of Job Duties:

    The Director of Development will be responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program that includes individual giving, major gifts, institutional giving, planned giving, and special events. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop fundraising goals and strategies and manage the Fundraising & Communications Team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s annual revenue goals.
    • Identify and cultivate major gift prospects.
    • Oversee the contracted grant writer as they develop LOI’s and proposals to corporate and foundation funders.
    • Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.
    • Develop and lead a communications plan that supports fundraising goals.
    • Manage and lead the fundraising and communications staff, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
    • Collaborate with other staff to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials.
    • Work closely with the Development Committee, Board of Directors and Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies and goals.
    • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.

    • Adhere to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development.
    • Plan and meet deadlines; maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the work.
    • Perform all functions professionally, treating any individual involved in an assigned task with respect and in a manner that demonstrates ability to effectively address issues.
    • Maintain confidentiality of donor information and honor donors’ rights.
    • Ability to establish strong and appropriate relationships with CEO, staff, board, volunteers, donors and the general community.
    • Work effectively and respectfully with individuals, without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, status regarding public assistance, membership or activity in a local commission, disability, sex, and/or age.
    • Perform other tasks, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned or directed.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Supervises Fundraising & Communications Coordinator. May direct the work of interns and volunteers as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field.
    • 8 years minimum experience in the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices; standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, direct mail, and development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting.
    • Direct solicitation experience essential.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing staff.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, board members, committee members, and volunteers.
    • Experience with fundraising software and donor databases.
    • A deep commitment to the mission and values of our organization.
    • Must be willing to meet in offices and homes of assigned prospects and donors across the greater Twin Cities area.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with organizational peers and management; maintaining a positive and constructive attitude while solving problems.
    • Ability to manage people, processes, deadlines, and budgets while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Donor Tools database, or a comparable constituent relationship database platform.
    • Strong knowledge, understanding, and experience engaging and participating in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) efforts at an organization.
    • Proven planning and organizational skills.
