    The Center for Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health (CEEJH, INC) is a new nonprofit focused on helping communities impacted by environmental, climate, and energy injustice with a focus on the Mid-Atlantic region, the Southeast, and other parts of the United States. CEEJH, INC is currently a fiscally sponsored project of the Movement Strategy Center. CEEJH, INC provides technical assistance and capacity-building support to help impacted communities address environmental racism, environmental classism, oppression and related health inequities by following the 17 Principles of Environmental Justice and through INpowerment Science and Liberation Science. CEEJH, INC continues the vision of Dr. Sacoby Wilson, one of the nation’s leading environmental justice researchers, scholars, and advocates to advance environmental, climate, and energy justice through service and the authentic engagement of local grassroots environmental justice organizations in community centered, justice-focused applied action-oriented solutions science. CEEJH, Inc is about dismantling racist systems, developing cross-sectoral partnerships, and demanding change to ensure that frontline and fenceline communities receive the recognitional, procedural, distributional, and restorative justice that they deserve.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    CEEJH, Inc is looking for an flexible, well-organized and highly motivated individual to fill the role of Executive Assistant to contribute to the overall goals of the organization and aid the Executive Director, Director of Operations, and other staff to move projects forward and advance environmental, climate, and energy justice.

    This position reports to the Executive Director. The Executive Assistant will perform a number of key tasks, including but not limited to:

    • Acts as the administrative point of contact between Executive Director and internal/external demands.
    • Handles executives’ requests and queries promptly and appropriately.
    • Conserves executive’s time by reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information, initiating telecommunications.
    • Maintains Executive Director’s schedule by planning and scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and travel.
    • Produces information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
    • Maintains confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
    • Provides historical reference by developing and utilizing filing systems, recording meeting discussions, and taking notes.
    • Assist with managing logistical needs of the organization.
    • Assist with communications and the development of correspondence.
    • Checking and responding to emails sent to organizational accounts.
    • Make travel arrangements for the Executive Director and staff
    • Assist other staff with programs and events.
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • High School diploma or equivalency (Associate or BS degree preferred)
    • Prior experience working in a non-profit, higher education, or research setting
    • Prior experience providing administrative and operational support, especially for an early stage non-profit
    • Meticulous attention to detail, checks work quality before delivery and asks relevant questions to meet quality standards as necessary
    • High level of organization with the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage diverse responsibilities is necessary
    • Possess high level of emotional intelligence, consideration and discernment in interactions with internal and external constituents
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to solve them independently
    • Self-motivation and interest in completing tasks and thinking beyond standard approaches to provide high-quality work
    • Experience managing a calendar and handling travel arrangements
    • Experience using Asana or a similar project management software
    • Ability to handle confidential information and handle sensitive matters with discretion
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to work with an array of diverse groups
    • High-degree of professionalism, integrity, commitment and flexibility
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Google suite
    • Must have skills in composing correspondence
    • Must have skills in managing filing systems (both electrically and hard copy)
    • Demonstrated the ability to independently write high quality reports, maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    In this role, the employee will not supervise other staff.

    EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily schedule is flexible within the proximity of this time frame, and will be decided in consultation with the supervisor.

    TRAVEL

    No significant travel expected. Occasional domestic travel may be required for meetings and conferences.

    LOCATION

    This role will commence with remote work and will move to a hybrid role with 1 to 2 days in office a week when CEEJH, INC secures an in-person office in the Washington, D.C. area in the near future.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    • Full time salaried exempt position with annual gross pay of $50,000 - $60,000. The salary is negotiable.
    • MSC’s 100% FTE benefits package includes the following (Part-time prorated at FTE% and may exclude some benefits):
      • 20 days vacation leave per year.
      • 13 standard holidays, and 2 personal days per year (your personal days are designated as your birthday and hire date anniversary, and should be taken on these dates).
      • 12 sick days per year.
      • 1 week paid MSC family and medical leave after one year of service; an additional week of paid leave for each additional year of service, up to 4 weeks.
      • Medical, vision, dental for employees and dependents (Eligible the first day of the following month from date of hire and requires a per pay period employee contribution).

    There will be a probationary period of 3 months for new hires. We believe in fostering a collaborative and mutually beneficial work environment.     This role will commence with remote work and may involve occasional in-person team meetings. The potential for more frequent in-person work at our office will be open for discussion between the supervisor and the employee, allowing for flexibility and alignment with individual preferences and team dynamics.
